Not sure if there's a rule of thumb. I've heard people say to wait until the baby has had shots. I flew with DS to NY when he was 3 months.

In your case, I'd probably fly at 2 months as long as the doc OK'd it.

Re: how soon can you fly....

My sister's pediatrician told her 3 months (make sure he has all of his shots), but a neonatologist that is Chief of the NICU where I work said he would never put his child on a plane until 6 months because of the issue that there are so many germs on the plane w/ the recirculated air. He also said that some cultures don't require vaccines like in the US, so the baby has a chance of getting sick.

Re: how soon can you fly....

I want to fly to florida to see my broother - the docsaid 2 wks but no onre can touch the baby and keep him away from crowds (very front of plane). DS has tummy issues so we're waiting for now until it settles down - maybe 6 weeks.

ETA: dunno if this matters but DS is BF
I was told no driving for 2 wks, i assume that means plane too

I flew with a 7 week old - no problems. Try and see if the doctor will do his 2 month shots before you fly. Try and fly at non peak times so you have more room, and not as many germs.
