Making my own baby quilts & bumper
I am finding that most of the crib sets that I like are ridiculously expensive ($1000 or more). Most of them have very simple designs and nice fabrics. I was thinking of just making my own. How hard could this be? Am I nuts?

If you're crafty/talented, I'm sure you can do it. I do not fall into either of those categories, so it would be a nightmare for me.
But it would be amazing to be able to save the set and have it become a treasured heirloom.

I don't even know how to sew a button so that would be out of the question for me, but if you are creative like that and you don't find anything else that you like then why not try it!

I think it would be super easy and a great idea! Maybe you could find a bumper on clearance and make a slip cover type of thing for it with your own fabric.

Re: Making my own baby quilts & bumper
Thanks all. I can sew, but I don't have a sewing machine at the moment. I found some great fabric swatches from things I made for my wedding the other day & really got to thinking about how much $$ I can save & how nice it might be to have something original.
I am just wondering if I'll have the energy to do it

Re: Making my own baby quilts & bumper
Why not try getting in touch with a seamstress or someone like that! I didn't have any bedding for my son and he is fairly well adjusted....so I wouldn't worry too much about the bedding!! Also, I personally don't see any need for it...bumpers are dangerous, you won't use a quilt for a baby for years, pillows...they can't use them either! So I say, pick something else to base the design of your nursery on! I picked some colors from a duvet cover that I loved in my own bedroom, I took the pillow to the paint store, they mixed the colors for me, we painted the room, got a blind, some curtains et voila! A nursery theme was born!!!

Thats a really good idea. BRU sells the Koala brand basic bumpers and they are $25. I would make a slip cover, use a zipper to slide it in and maybe velcrow tabs instead of ties. DS ripped two of the ties from me tying them to tight and him pulling on them and I washed it once after he spit up on it and I think it shrunk a little. I wish I knew how to sew because I would go this route.

I know that it si mostly for decor the first couple of years, which is also why I don't want to spend all that crazy money.
