clothing for that "in between" phase

So, I haven't "popped" yet, but let's just say that most of my usual pants won't button. Let's just call me pants-closure-challenged.

During this not-quite-PG-looking phase, how did you dress?

Did you walk around with your pants unbuttoned, hoping that a long shirt would hide your fashion sin (and your exhibitionism)?

Did you buy regular pants a size or two up from your usual?

Have you tried one of those Bella Band thingies?

Do you just wear those 1-2 elastic waistband skirts that you own over and over and over again?

Note: I'm a teacher, so I like to "vary" my clothing as much as possible. Wouldn't want the students thinking that I wear the same thing every day!

Thanks for any brilliant fashion insights you might have! Chat Icon

Re: clothing for that "in between" phase

I never waited for my pants to be too tight to close as they were tight and making my tummy hurt so I just gave up. I heard mixed things about the bella band. I wore for a few weeks some pants that were 1-2 sizes too big but they weren't comfortable.

I find some of the maternity pants have a draw string with a full panel elastic - to even though they were too big I could pull the string to my size and they were so comfy like wearing sweats everyday.

There are also many pants that can be adjustable - and if you shop at a good sale (old navy has them now) if you out grow them in 3 months you didn't spend a lot of money.

I have heard the bella bands work well. However, i went to the Gap and got the pants that just have the adjustable elastic in the back of them and they seem to be the most comfy so far!! My problem is finding shirts now!! Most of my shirts still fit, but you can see some little bulge and I dont like it!!! Do I just get bigger ones? AHHH!!

So glad you asked this, I'm in the same boat. I find myself standing at my closet for longer and longer periods of time each morning trying to find something to wear. I have the smallest bump which basically looks like a fat roll, help! Chat Icon

In the beginning I got the adjustable waist pants from the Gap and I expect I will wear them after as well. I can tighten them up as I lose weight.

Oh yeah, as far as tops, there are some maternity tops that don't look ridiculous at this stage. Some button down shirts and tees look normal with more room.

Personally, I hated the Bella Band. Wore it once and took it off in the middle of the day. But it does seem many people love it, so who knows!
I got a couple of pairs of pants that were bigger than my regular size and also some maternity pants with the elastic in the back. In the few weeks that I've had them, I can see how the maternity are best since I can 'grow' into them.

H&M in the Smithhaven Mall has the best maternity clothes. Most of the styles stretch and grow with you. I actually wore some of the stuff I bought when I was pregnant with my daughter when I wasnt pregnant anymore.

I dont know if they have them in other malls on LI, but heres there website:

Thanks a million for all of your advice, everyone!

I went to Target today and learned an unfortunate lesson: the maternity pants are not great for short ladies. Almost everything was too long!

I will try the Gap and H&M, definitely! Chat Icon
