Re: Consumer Reports withdraws carseat findings!
The revelation amounts to an embarrasment for the trusted consumer guide, and a relief to parents who were frightened about their babies' safety after the original report came out.
It was very disturbing to see that so many big name brands could have failed so badly, so it makes sene there may have been a mistake. But how to you confuse doing a test at 38mph to a test at 70mph?????

Re: Consumer Reports withdraws carseat findings!
No clue - but honestly - with how most people drive on the parkways and LIE they are flashing their lights at you if you go 60-65 - that is more realistic for highway crash. Honestly 30 mph that they test is a joke as most people drive faster than that - and even if you are going 30 someone else who hits you is probably doing more than that. I wish they would test at much higher speeds as it is more realistic conditions.

Re: Consumer Reports withdraws carseat findings!
I heard this too on 1010wins, then saw the story on NBC Nightly News.
The testing was done by an independent company NOT Consumer Reports. The Feds did their own testing and said the results at 38 MPH were all positive. The test that were done, from which the original report was given were done at 70 MPH. BIG difference.
ALSO, the testing as done as a result of a Side Impact. Not just regular driving.

Interesting... thanks for sharing. I have to admit, though, that when anyone "retracts" findings from a consumer test of corporate products, I wonder if the tester was bribed or pressured to do so. Yes, I know I'm paranoid.

Aren't most accidents though side impact more than head on? With the way a lot of crazy people drive these days they should be testing the car seats regularly for side impact like they test cars - don't you think?
