Is it so unreasonable....
to ask my family not to visit me in the hospital until evening visiting hours the day of my scheduled c/s? I know how much pain I was in after my daughter's birth, but it was at night, so no one was able to come in and see me anyway. I mentioned to my mom on the phone after my family had a chance to see the baby in the nursery, I want some alone time with the new baby and my husband so I can relax without worrying about falling asleep or looking like crap in front of visitors. She basically went off on me, saying everyone will want to see the baby. I already told her - she doesnt listen - that I will keep the baby in the nursery for a little while so my family can see him. She thinks its wrong of me and that people will want to see me. I think I need my rest and time alone. Is it so wrong to ask them to wait a few more hours????????

I don't think so. I know I felt like crap after my c-section. I would stick to your guns. They can wait a few hours!

Nope, I plan on asking the same thing- and it's the first grandchild on both sides!! Do I think they're going to listen? yeah right!
W/ a C/S all my friends who have had them said that they take the baby and they have to stich you back up etc.. .and you don't get to hold the baby for at least an hour or so later ??? I'll DIE or murder someone if Pete or I are not the first ones to hold and kiss the baby!!!!!!!!

After my c/s with my daughter, my husband held her immediatley after they took her Apgar scores. It only took about 15 minutes for them to stitch me up, and they let me hold her while they wheeled my to recovery. So it wasnt so bad.But I was in so much pain (my epi machine locked up and the anesthesiologist was no where to be found!) and shaking from the meds that I asked them to take her away from me until I calmed down.

I don't blame you. How unconsiderate to visit a mom who just gave birth.

Re: Is it so unreasonable....
Since both of my boys were born in the evening 7:37 and 9:40 pm, visiting hours were over and my family wasn't *allowed* to visit until the next day! It was AWESOME!!!! Hopefully your little guy will be a late arrival.
ETA: Just re-read you're having a scheduled C/S. Good luck in getting your family to stay away all day.

Re: Is it so unreasonable....
That's not unreasonable at all, and your family should be understanding, especially since you are having a c/s.

Re: Is it so unreasonable....
I think you are totally right to want some alone time- especially since you have been through this before and know what it is going to be like. I would also like to request alone time after giving birth because I feel like that is such a special time for you and DH and you should be together without having to "entertain".

Re: Is it so unreasonable....
Completely not unreasonable to want some private time with only your immediate family. I do think it's tough for a grandma to wait to see her grandchild and her daughter that just had surgery. Think of it in terms of if your daughter had surgery. Maybe your mom (only your mom) could bring Genevieve when you're ready for her to meet her brother?
You get to call the shoots - your pregnancy, your baby. Make sure the staff knows whatever it is that you decide.

Well, my mom and m-i-l are allowed to come into recovery. I'm just talking once I get into my own room. And the baby will be in there with us for a little while until they take him to the nursery.....
