What’s the deal with maintaining yourself?
like
highlights? Waxing eyebrows? Manicures/Pedicures?
can you still do these things when you are pregnant?

When doing pedicure, tell them NOT to massage your ankles. It could induce labor.

I don't think that's true... I've been getting pedicures with massages and Prenatal massages with all my kids and I've never had a problem
ETA - I've gotten waxed and had manis and pedis with all my pregnancies.. it's a good way to relax.. well not the waxing so much

Re: What’s the deal with maintaining yourself?
I've stopped getting my hair highlighted, but many people do go back to the salon after the first trimester.
I've posted this link before, but I have found the "Is it Safe?" list from Babycenter extremely helpful. The list covers beauty and spa questions along with food, exercise, and so on. I also like that the list accounts for people's various degrees of risk aversion. Take a look!
Hope this helps!

Re: What’s the deal with maintaining yourself?
My doctor said no problem to having manicures and pedicures and didn't give any restrictions.
Hair dye and highlighting - Dr said no to first trimester and said we could revisit the issue in my second trimester - but I haven't asked again
