Do I have the right to be mad
I was pregnant in Oct and miscarried at 6 weeks. During that time I went out to dinner with a very close friend of mine, who at the time didnt know she was pregnant, and told her that I loved this certain name. Her husband was like i dont like it because of a kid he new from school (he is a teacher). So now she is 16 weeks along and I was talking to her last night and she said if it is a girl she was going to use the name I had mentioned. I know I shouldnt be mad but it really ****** me off. We see each other a lot and it would ridiculous to have kids with the same name....Now I am hoping she had a boy...
Sorry for the vent...

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
you have the right to be mad. i could understand why. i mentioned my boy's name on LIF and some months later.. anywya, this doesn't compare because i don't know this person at all. total stranger. but there's plenty of names out there to choose from. be flattered that you came up with such a great name that your close friend had to take it.

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
You definitely have the right to be mad. It's for this exact reason that I refuse to tell anyone the names we have chosen. Right now I respond that we aren't sure yet - still looking. We have so many friends and family that are pregnant - with many due before me - and I do not want the chance that they will take the names we have.
Sorry that this happened.

I would be mad and hurt! You definitley have a right to be mad. Why would a friend do that to you?

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
I think while you may have the "right" to be mad, I would still name my child what I wanted to name them. Don't let this deter you

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
Does she know that you plan on still using the name?
I wouild mention it. She probably doesnt want her kid to have the same name either.
If she doesnt care, that stinks, I would go for another name

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
Lots of people say "Oh, I love the name X" and then never use it. So maybe she just loves the name and never even thought that you were really planning on using it. Plus I found that names I love pre-pregnancy and even still love just didn't fit while I was pregnant with Molly. I love the name Cooper and Chase but our son is going to be Jason. So often things do change.
I would not be mad unless this was my best friend or sibling.

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
Well, I think you have the right to be upset, but I am not sure about MAD.
I think that you have every right to still use the name if you LOVE it. My parents chose not to name me what they wanted b/c one of their friends "took" it and they haven't seen them in over 20 years and I've never met the girl, so when it comes down to it, who really cares?

I would be mad, and I would say something to her. I have had this happen to me, and I HATE name stealers!

Re: Do I have the right to be mad
To be honest, unless you made up the name yourself, I don't really get why anyone gets mad about this sort of thing.
