16-week appointment
What should I expect at my 16-week appointment? Do they do the AFP (don't even know exactly what this test is!), and do they then send me to get bloodwork?
Also, I'm hoping they schedule me for my Level II then, I'm guessing that would be my next appt. since I've been going every 4 weeks...fair to assume that?
Thanks

Re: 16-week appointment
My appt fell on my 17th week. They did the AFP and also gave me the number to call to schedule my Level II - my doctor is part of the Women's Comprehensive Center at LIJ in Manhasset so all testing is done at the hospital.
ETA: AFP was the second part of the testing they did for down syndrome risk and all that. I was just one vile of blood.

Re: 16-week appointment
The AFP is just bloodwork so if your doc doesnt do it there then they will send out you to get it but it has to be done within a certain time frame (and it's totally optional)
Yes, you will probably get to schedule your Level II then too

Re: 16-week appointment
My appt was 18 weeks. I was weighed, pee in a cup, Nurse Pract. took blood for the AFP in the office and sched the Level 2 (same practice, diff. office). The Dr came to see if I had any questions, but overall it was a fairly quick visit.

Re: 16-week appointment
I just had mine today! kinda routine, pee, talked to the doctor, listened to baby's heartbeat (it is a little swimmer, she kept chasing him/her) and had blood drawn for the 2nd part of genetic testing...

Re: 16-week appointment
Ok, I'm adding another question--did your DH go with you for this one? Mine has been going to the ultrasound appointments, but I think he'd like to hear the heartbeat at the next appointment.
