Silly Q...what exactly do I need to

register for as far as car seats?

They need an infant carrier

Then a toddler one?

Then a booster seat? (or am I missing one)

Also, what do I need as far as strollers go?

I would register for an infant carrier and possibly a convertible seat (although in 5 months they may have a newer safer one you may want)

I would also hold off on the booster seat because they aren't used until about 4 years old.

I would get a snap n go stroller (infant carrier stroller) and either a lightweight stroller with a basket or just an umbrella stroller like a MacLaren.

This was one of my biggest sources of confusion registering!! I registered for the Graco travel system, which includes the infant carrier and the base for the car as well as the stroller which the infant carrier snaps into. Then I registered for the Britax Marathon car seat for when she gets bigger. This car seat ma get me through without ever needing a booster seat. it depends on how big she gets!

Hope that helps...I did a lot of research and asked a lot of moms first!

we are registering for one infant seat , I dont feel safe with the convertible ones that can be faced backwards for newborns.

Then two convertible seats. One good one for my car and one slightly less $$$ for DH's car since he wont use it as much as I will.

As far as strollers, we are looking at a lightweight umbrella stroller and then a medium sized stroller.

I dont like the travel systems since they are so bulky and with the infant car seats we dont need the travel system.

Get the book Baby bargains. It helped me SOO much in deciding, it explains it ALL and gives you alll the brands and their saftey ratings etc.

Its a GREAT book to have.

I am registering only for the infant car seat Graco Snugride because of it's high safety rating. Another good one is the Britax but it's more expensive. The infant car seat is the one you can carry the baby in to and from the car. I also have a car seat adapter on the stroller so I can use the infant car seat on the stroller.

The convertible does not come off the car. So keep that in mind if you want to carry the baby in and out of the car and not wake him/her up.

The infant car seat is really for infants so you will have to switch later to a "regular" front facing car seat.

The booster seat is for holder kids. I believe over 40 Lbs.

You can check the DOT online for the requirements of NY State.
