In order for dh to be in the room, do you HAVE to take Lamaze?
Does it depend on the hospital?
Im freaking out, because I called last night and one woman's classes run till past my due date. She said I can go to them but gave me another woman to call and I haven't heard back.
So, how many of you are taking Lamaze?

You do not have to take them at all therefore it will not keep your DH out of the delivery room. Don't worry too much about when the class ends...if it's a good class, you'll learn all you need to know in the first couple of classes...really it's all about breathing and forcing yourself to relax.

Aww ty so much for responding. DH had me worried because he is hearing from his coworkers that the class has to be taken! My dr. never mentioned it being mandatory. The woman I spoke with last night was very nice and said I can still go, something is better than nothing.

Re: Spinoff: Lamaze

MY BIL had to take a class to be in the room at Huntington. Not sure if that has changed.

Neither DH nor I had to take anything at NS

If that's true, it sounds like a way for them to make more money. What if you take it and then don't use it? And are they really going to deny your DH's presence for the birth of his child just because of a class? What if the child was born before the classes started?

Lamaze was optional for us and we opted not to take it. Most people I spoke to have never taken it and the few that had, half didn't use anything they learned at it.

Re: Spinoff: Lamaze

I think you should call the hospital or ask your doctor. Different hospitals have different rules. I don't think they mean that if you go into pre-term labor at 30 weeks that they will not allow him in. I will say that it is better for him to understand what is happening at each stage and not be in the total dark

Re: Spinoff: Lamaze

To my understanding Lamaze classes are totally optional. I have plenty of friends that have NOT taken a class, given birth and had their DH with them the whole time. Not to mention the fact that Lamaze is just one birthing method, and there are many methods used nowadays. I have decided not to take one but did sign up for the babycare basics class through NSUH (they have many different types of classes you can sign up for). I have heard mixed things about the Lamaze classes. Some people use the breathing exercises during delivery while others feel it is a waste of time and money.

So taking a Lamaze class is entirely up to you. But don't feel pressure to take one if you are limited in time. I would call your OB's office and see what they say.
