How long for CIO?

How long do you let them CIO for? Roman is 10 months and I've been giving him 15 minutes but he's been getting progressively louder and more upset so I just go in and get him. Should I give him longer? How do I know if it is a manipulation thing? Any advise?

Re: How long for CIO?

Ahhh, if you go in after 15 minutes and get him, after a few times of this, he'll learn that the louder he cries, eventually mommy will get him.

With Alex, the first time, I let her CIO for about 20-30 minutes. I tried the whole, go back in every 5-10 minutes and rub her back thing, but it didn't work for us, it just made her more hysterical. For us, it was easier to just let her CIO by herself until she fell asleep. The key is to time it right - make sure he's right at the window of sleepy, but not overtired, otherwise it could go on for some time.

The first night was awful. Second night, not so bad. By the 5th night, she went down on her own and not a peep Chat Icon

He'll go down when it's time for bed but then wakes up about an hour or two later. If I go in and rub his back he goes back to sleep for another hour or two. I don't want to get up every two hours so I guess I'll let him cry I mean scream his way back to sleep?

My DD claws at her own face whenever she's upset/tired/cranky/fussy.. how to do CIO without her scarring herself? Mittens don't really work, because she will scratch herself so hard/much that the friction causes her to break out in a rash too.
