is this normal?
Hannah spit up twice last night in her crib after her 4am feeding and at least 3 times this morning after her 8 am feeding. When I say spit up I mean alot!!! She's 1 week old and takes between 3 - 4 oz and is generally a good burper. Are we overfeeding her? is she sick? or is it just normal?
eta she seems fine - not bothered by it, no fever

I may be wrong but I think they just go through phases. I also found that if I don't pat DD that hard when I burp her I get the burp w/out the spit up. HTH!

Re: is this normal?
I understand your concerns, I had the same. But babies do spit up alot, my son did the same when he was first born. As long as its not bothering him, he's probably just fine.

Re: is this normal?
Both DDs are doing this too. One was diagnosed most likely with acid reflux - they have them both on Zantac. I would take note of how often and talk to your ped next time you go.

Re: is this normal?
Luca sometimes spits up and I "think" it's when he overeats. I would maybe try giving Hannah a little less at her feedings. If she seems satisfied then you have your answer. You may find that you feed her a little more frequently, but that's ok. Luca is 6 weeks and only takes 3oz bottles when I pump. He doesn't look for more than that and will even spit up. Many times he'll take 2oz and then an hour or so later look for the rest.

Re: is this normal?
DD used to spit up a lot (still does at 9 months )... and I found that when she was that young that if I held her on my shoulder upright for 15-20 minutes after I fed her, it would help...If I just layed her down right after a feeding, she almost always spit up.

Re: is this normal?
it's normal for them to spit up. at this age their digestive systems aren't fully developed 100% and sometimes they get a "reverse flow"- hence the spit up- i know it seems like a lot but it's probably not more than a tablespoon- I wouldn't worry about it- as long as DC isn't in pain it isn't a big deal- just make sure to have a burp cloth handy.. that's why they make them :)

Re: is this normal?
Babys' systems are still developing and they really do tend to spit up a lot, some more than others. Just keep an eye on if she spits up and seems as if she is in pain - then it could be reflux. Honestly, I just think she is so little and any extra food comes right back out. Mention it at your next visit but I think from my experience that it's normal. DS spit up for four months and quite a lot and there was nothing wrong - that's just what he did.
