Temper, temper....

RJ is driving me to drink..

The temper tantrums are out of control...

If the phone rings, he sees keys, or whatever it may be- and he cant have it- he will pick up anyting w/in reach and throw it across the room- this goes along with high pitched screaming, throwing himself on the floor and flaring his arms and legs...

Im so not ready to be dealing with this- what happened to my innocent little baby?

The past few days if he is not w/ me- doing exactly what he wants to do - he flips out...

I literally almost set dinner on fire trying to deal w/ a tantrum and cook at the same time tonight...

I try to ignore it- But it gets to the point- that Im scared my neighbors are gonna think WTH is going on in my house...

DH just kinda got a promotion.. and now is working later hours... which is totally throwing our whole sched. out of whack...

If this is a glimpse of what the terrible 2's are gonna bring... I think Im gonna put RJ back in the womb- until he is 3Chat Icon

I know ALOT has to deal with the fustration of not being able to communicate what it is he exactly wants... Im constantly trying to redirect his attention on something else- but nothing seems to affect him....

Any advice? or just plain old hugs?

My advice - teach him sign language. Sounds like he is having frustration with trying to communicate and can't. There's books and DVD's on this, maybe some you can buy or borrow out of the library. If you teach him the basics like hungry/sleepy/wet or dirty diaper/happy/sad he may stop w/ the trantrums. Worth a shot!Chat Icon

Yes we have them too..

Antonio likes to bang his head back and he made my lip bleed, he also throws himself on the floor, bangs his feet, and throws his toys across the room (he set off our alarm)

I usually try to ignore him and distract him, say no and sometimes I secretly laugh because it looks so funny to see a little 20 pound person with so much emotionChat Icon

I think it's a stage and besides a firm no and distraction there is really not much we could do at this age.Chat Icon

More attention to the behavior might actually have them believe they can get our attention.

Did I mention he bites me too!

I forgot to mention that he now knows how to make himself throw-up and will do so if not getting what he wants during the tantrum...

BTDT moms- how long will this "stage" last about?

Jacob is having these tantrums also, so you are not alone on this one... I don't know where my nice little man has gone... All he does is scream and cry when he doesn't get what he wants...

I am chalking this up to his molars coming in but I am sure that is just the ip of the iceberg

Re: Temper, temper....

Christopher's been getting worse and worse with the tantrums...ESPECIALLY when he's teething. He doesn't really throw things, but he screams and throws himself onto the floor. For the most part, I ignore. If ignoring isn't working, I distract. I'll give him his favorite toy or put his favorite TV show on. If neither works, I give him a time out and put him in his crib for a little while. It's rough. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
