Constipated?
DD hasn't gone in 2 1/2 days. Lots of wet diapers, no poop. I'm primarily BFing. Is there something I can do to help her? She looks like she's pushing a lot - I feel bad. Something I can eat or drink to help?

Re: Constipated?
Try using a little vaseline on the end of a thermometer. That sometimes helps!

Re: Constipated?
Thanks! Oh jeez I tried the thermometer w/out the vaseline - poor little girl! I'm so scatterbrained these days! I barely got in there anyway.

Re: Constipated?
If you're bfing she might not be constipated. When I was bfing, Brendan would only poop every 7-10 days! My ped said it's totally normal. Only when I introduced solids and formula did he start to go more often, although now he does get constipated from the formula. I feed him prunes almost every day and that's not even enough! I have found that giving him a little water every day helps the most. What does her poop look like when it comes out? If it's loose it's not constipation, just normal for a bf baby. But if it's firm and she really is having a hard time getting it out then talk to your ped about what you should give her.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! It's loose when it comes out. I was only concerned because it seems like she's struggling sometimes.

Maybe she just has gas?

Re: Constipated?
BF babies don't go all the time everyday.
BM is so nutrient rich and gives them everything they need there's no waste!
Unless she is uncomfy, screaming, and her poo's are hard and formed there's no reason to do anything
When Gianna was BF she would go every 3-4 days, and she was perfectly okay in between. PED didn't want her to go longer than 5 days, just when i thought it was time to worry she pooped!
If you start to worry a little you can always give her 1oz of pear juice with 1oz of water, or put 1oz of pear juice in some formula or milk
But i wouldn't worry!

Re: Constipated?
Thanks! The last two nights her face turns red and she'll pass gas and get upset and tighten up while doing so. I guess it's normal. I hope it's not colic!

my DD does the red face pushing thing a lot and doesn't poop- it's probably gas- she makes a face, sometimes cries briefly- but then goes right back to normal.

Thats exactly what she does but it will last for 2 hours or so on and off. Anything I can do to relieve the gas for her?
