Disability Question

If you got paid disability after the birth of your child, how long did you get paid for? I was supposed to get 8 weeks since I had a section. I only got paid for 7 weeks though. They said they hold back a week and that you don't get reimbursed for it. Does that sound right?

Re: Diability Question

You are considered disabled 8 weeks after having a c section. I've never heard about them holding back disability. Every company is dfferent - does your require you to use sick days or accrued time?

Re: Disability Question

No they don't. I thought the disability came from the state.

Re: Disability Question

NY state disability? Or through your job?

NY State holds back one week - the first week is a waiting period and you dont get paid for it.

It's partly true. Yes, you have to wait one week before the disability kicks n. So you don't get paid the first week you are out, but I am almost sure you get paid for 8 weeks (I know I did).

I got paid for a total of 8 weeks after my first (a c/s). It was $1360 and they took taxes out, so I got a one lump sum check of just over $1000.

This is how it was explained to me and I got paid for 5 weeks, not 6.
