What do you think regarding age of godparents?
We still have a few months but DH and I have been discussing our baby's godmother and godfather. DH is not close with his brother and sister-in-law (long story) & they have no interest in our baby or even care that I am pregnant . I am really close with 3 of my cousins who are all siblings. My cousin Candice was my Maid of Honor, she is 23. She is dating the same guy for almost 5 yrs and if they were engaged I would definetely ask them to be the god parents, but they are not and we all know 5 yrs. or not, things can happen. Our other choice, being we had 1 cousin as the MOH, was to ask her younger brother and sister who are 21 yr. old twins to be the godparents. Do you think 21 is too young?

Re: What do you think?
not at all.
my brother is 19 and the godfather of my Daughter.
He has been wonderful to her since she was born.
If you feel he can handle the responsibility then go for it. My DH has a brother who is 23 and is very irresponsible. I don't think I would even pick him for the 2nd baby.

Re: What do you think?
no I dont think its too young at all...
What about your MOH though and another male?
We are picking my BIL as Godfather but not his wife, because we already decided on my Aunt to be Godmother, we dont mean to leave my SIL out, but we didnt feel it had to be a couple or someone close to each other? ya know?

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?
Id have to say 21 is not too young if there mature considering I was a mom at 20. and my aunt was my godmother at 18. It just depends on the person

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?

We originally were going to pick my MOH and one of DH's best friends (he chose one best friend as his Best Man & figured he would make his other best friend the godfather of our first baby), but DH is questioning asking his friend. His friend and his wife are very selfish and don't really want kids of their own or like kids for that fact, and DH doesnt think he is the right person now. In some ways it is a big responsibility; Dh doesnt think he will really "live up to the" role or even really acknowledge the importance of it. That is why I am thinking of going with my 2 younger cousins, who are like my sister and brother.

I don't think it's too young as long as they are good role models.

DH became a godfather when he was about 19. I think that 21 is fine. They will be so excited!

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?
I think asking your cousins is perfectly fine. I would not however ask an unmarried couple to be godparents, no matter what their age. So I think you have a great plan in place!

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?
I dont think 21 is too young at all. People at that age will be in the child's life a long time and their childhood and teens are not so far away where they would forget where their godchild is coming from when they go to him/her for advice

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?
We just had this discussion ourselves...we decided to pick my sister who is only 19 and my BIL who is only 20. I really think it depends on the person and you have to pick someone that is going to ALWAYS be in that child's life. DH and I both have one godparent each that we don't ever see or hear from and we wish our parents would have picked a closer aunt or uncle.

Re: What do you think regarding age of godparents?
21 is not too young.
My brother's Godmother was 14 when she became his Godmother.
It actually was very nice because he had many years of being spoiled by her (in her yuppy 20's) before she got married and had a family of her own. She took him into NYC all of the time and once took him to Ireland with her on vacation. They really bonded and she has done so much for him espcially since our mom died when he was 4. The close age difference was definitely an advantage.
