What would you do if you knew-
You were going to have a difficult pregnancy and end up needing a C-Section?
This is basically my situation. I've had a bad back since I slipped a few discs a few years ago. I'm PG now, and the Dr.'s have basically told me that I'll deliver early and need a C-Section.
I'm exercising and trying to keep the weight to a minimum...
What would you do?
Thanks!!!

Honestly, I would listen very carefuly to my doctor.
In doubt, get a second opinion.

I agree. Also, be careful not to cause more stress and exercise more carefully.

'm in the same boat... i slipped a few discs when i was a teenager... hasnt bothered too much in my 20's though... but i am plus size to begin with... always was even then... and i broke my tail bone when i was young and they think it healed leaning towards my birth canal... they arent sure until i'm in labor... but mose likely i will have a c-section and i'm fine with that.... many many healthy woman wind up having a c-section these days anyway...

a second opinion is never a bad idea. but you never know what can happen. I think they tell you so you can prepare for it just in case, so you are not shocked the moment it happens.

Re: What would you do if you knew-
OH, I'm not worried about having a C-Section..... that's fine by me.
I'm mainly concerned about being bed ridden and in pain or the baby not being healthy.
This was my 2nd opinion and I've switched Dr.'s too. Oh well, guess it's just what God had in store for me.

Chiropractor!!!!!
I had MAJOR back surgery in 2003 - and now I have been going to the chirporactor again for the past few months. He keeps my back in good shape so that the weight shifts don't put strain on any of the vertabrea.
I think this could help you immensely.
Good for anyone actually, since when pg our pelvis opens up and changes the weight distribution on our back.

Re: What would you do if you knew-
I would 100% get an new OB. Plus size women DO NOT need C/S because of their size. There are a number of sites dedicated to women who have been nearly forced into a c/s just because of their size and that is unfair. I am not plus sized but was forced into a c/s because Molly was breech.. no one would consider allowing me to attempt a v-Birth. BUT I also found out later that I could have easily gone into labor on my own and that it would not have put me or the baby at risk at all. My new OB/GYN told me that after reviewing the mess I dealt with my daugter. So not every OB is right. I would go to a new OB and explain that you want to attempt a v-birth and see what they say. I would also ask for EXACTLY why medically they are saying you REQUIRE surgery.
Yes, the health of your baby is most important BUT for many women the exprerience of labor and delivery is something important to them. You can love your baby and NOT be okay with the situation of their birth or your exprience during pregnancy.

I'm in that situation now and having a section on Thursday. Really there is not much you can do other than listening to the Dr. I feel very comfortable with my Dr so whatever he says goes in my book.

Re: What would you do if you knew-
I'm not overweight(well, 10-15lbs and growing!!!!)....they said I might need a C/S due to my "heart shaped" uterus.
On top of that issue- I've had a leap before due to having pre-cancerous cells on my cervix (1994).
All of that, combined w/ my bad back, the Dr. is preparing me for the worst... bed rest and a possible pre-mature labor/C-Section. Although, there have been many VD's w/ individuals who have a heart shaped uterus, it's a possiblity.
Just was looking to see if I was not thinking of something from you ladies? When it's YOU, you freak out and miss the obvious sometimes. LOL- a chiroprator is a MUST and I'm keeping up my fitness routine, although no hard impact exercising. Trying to eat totally healthy and not gain to much weight... I think that's all I can do and hope for the best!
