Registry help....

How far along were you when you registered?

What is the deal with the travel system stroller vs. a separate stroller for the infant carrier and then for when they get bigger? is there a website anyobe can recommend about strollers?

I've heard the Britax Marathon is THE car seat to get and it is the safest? What's wrong with the others? Also, that carseat is the second one, what is the best one for infants?

Thanks ladies...I am very confused and frustrated by making these decisions!!!

Re: Registry help....

I am 17 and a half weeks and I started my registry last week. Mainly because my family wants to buy for Christmas, so I will add to it when I know the sex.

I registered for a Graco travel system. I won't put a second car seat on my registry because I think that DH and I can buy that ourselves when the time comes. My neice only moved out of her infant seat at one year old (she is tiny).

If you are confused, go to Babies R Us, they give you a check list and have very helpful people to help you.

Re: Registry help....

I registered at 19 weeks then finished at 20 when we found out. I have the Graco travel system as well. We tested it out in the store and from what we heard it seems safe. We are going to get a second base as opposed to a second car seat.

If you need help, I can let you see mine if you want some direction.

Re: Registry help....

we went right after our level II and we found out it was a girl and that everything was okay.

the stroller is just a matter of preference. some people love the travel systems and other dont. i know some are heavey also. we went back and forth for so long!!! in the end we ended up picking the Graco Quattro Tour travel system.

the story we got about the britax is apparently tested in a few countries and other seats are only tested here. apparently it does the best everywhere. we picked the new one with the side impact prevention. it is expensive but we put in on our registry and prayed someone would buy it and they did - thank god. i would register for it and if u dont get it then think about a different one.

I registered at 20 weeks. We decided to go with the Graco Quattro travel system after spending time in BRU playing with it, seeing how it moved, how heavy it was, how easily it folded.

When the time comes to get a bigger car seat, we will get a Britax. I think I did register for it though I don't expect anyone to get it- I am thinking of my registry more as my personal checklist of things we need as opposed to things I expect people to buy for us- it's easier for me to be organized that way.

Re: Registry help....

Travel systems and infant carrier carseats are really a matter of preference. For me, since I am a tiny person, I can't use them as the added weight of the baby is simply too much for me to lift.

As for carseats, I would spend some time in the carseat section and read the descriptions and judge for yourself. I refuse to spend $300 on a carseat. I used a graco for my daughter from birth [convertible seat] and she was always fine, it never toppled and I never worried about car crashes and her safety. PERSONALLY, I think you are better off skipping the cute carriers since you have to turn around and buy a new one no later than 1 year later...some babies are really too big for them much sooner from being tall or simply too heavy.

In the end, it's all a personal preference. Right down to when to register. You register when you feel comfortable...you don't even have to register as well. [I didn't with my first not sure about this time] Do your homework and do what's best for you.

Re: Registry help....

Thanks everyone!

If you don't go with the travel system, what do you have to get as far as car seats and strollers? Any recommendations on infant carriers tha are not part of the travel system?

Re: Registry help....

I actually went for a different approach.

Babies are not supposed to be sitting for at least the first 3 months (spince development!!!). So I wanted a bassinet stroller. After rulling out the Bugaboo which is way out of my league ($$$$$$), I am now considereing a stroller that will convert to a carriage (lay flat).

The bumbleride is a strong contender. It has great reviews. I am considering the Flyer since it is about 22Lbs. The Queen B is nice but heavier and I don't think I can manage.

I also don't want to keep buying strollers.

The bumbleride has a universal car adapter.

So far I am leaning towards the bumbleride and an infant car seat.

Re: Registry help....

Im just looking into it all now....

I think the travel systems for me are way too heavy, but its personal choice, looks like they work well for many people.

As far as Car Seats go I will register for the Britax and hopefully get it. I have a newborn car seat from a friend she never used.

Strollers Im still looking into. Not worried about the before 3 month mark and sitting up since, I dont think I will be talking the baby out too often before then and if I do, not in the stroller anyway.

The book BABY Bargains has AWESOME ideas and suggestions....its worth picking up.

Not to be a nudge, but how old is the car seat that your friend is giving you? They have expiration dates on them. If it is under 3-5 years old, you should be ok

Re: Registry help....

I just registered with my sister yesterday. She is 22 weeks. She registered for the graco safe seat car seat and the quattro tour. She also registered for a snap and go. The quattro tour is 29 lbs by itslef but folds down really easy and it seemed like the most quality stroller. she can use the snap and go for most days and if she is going to be shopping or walking a lot she can use the stroller. it holds up to 60 lbs I think so she figured she can use that after the baby grows out of the infant seat

Re: Registry help....

I registered at about 15 weeks cause that was when my Mom was in town and we could go together. I added stuff on my own all the time after that. It was just nice to do it with her and get her Mom advise on stuff.
I forgot to register for a car seat when I went and then it got cose to my shower so I threw the Britax Marathon on there (based on other people's opinions) but nobody bought it anyway - too expensive!

Re: Registry help....

I think I registered around 15 weeks.
Twins tend to come early and I'm already getting bigger by the day. I didn't want to spend two hours in a store too much longer into my pregnancy.

I choose the lightest snap and go from Graco they make since I'll be carrying two of them.

Stroller really isn't applicable since it's a twin stroller.

I highly recommend Baby Bargains. I got a great crib, only one rated highly for under $500. It's Ellis 4 in 1 by Simplicity. Available at BRU's on-line site (they don't sell it in store) for $350 each delivered to my house in less than one week.

Re: Registry help....

I registered the weekend after my level II (so around 21 weeks.) I researched everything using the Baby Bargains book mentioned above, reviews on Consumer Reports and Amazon/BRU before even setting foot in the store. I went with my top 3 highchair, stroller, pack n play, car seat, etc and then made my decision based on what I thought in the store.

I registered for the Chicco travel system and 2 Britax car seats (one for my car and one for DH's car) for when she outgrows the infant seat. I got all of them Chat Icon

Re: Registry help....

Baby Bargains was a great help to me. So was the Consumer Reports Baby Book. Between the two of them and looking at all my friends registries and going to the store (and testing things for oursleves) we figured something out.

For infant carriers I think the Graco Snugride is rated one of the highest. I got the metrolite stroller with it (it's only 11 pounds and I can swing it around with one hand) It's great for travelling and has gone a long way with us. Some people get the Snap n go first (the infant carrier snaps into it) it's very light and compact, but you can only use it with the infant seat.

We have the Graco and I have been happy with it, especially after the youtube video - I'm glad I have a seat upto 65 pounds. Nothing wrong with putting it on your registry and seeing if someone gets it for you. Or you can buy it with any GC you get. You can also use it straight from birth, but the infant carrier has a lot of benefits - not waking the baby taking them out of the car being one of the biggest ones!

I am 17 and a half weeks and I started my registry last week. Mainly because my family wants to buy for Christmas.

I went last weekend as well, for the same reason. My family, especially the OOT folks, want to buy some of the bigger items for us for christmas as well. I am only 12w, but I registered for the car seat, stroller, high chair, & co-sleeper.

I registered for the Britax. The infant seat has additional safety features that the others did not, including the Graco. It also can be used with the stroller, which can be used in age stages as well. It was a little more than the Graco, but it seemed worth it to me. We went to BRU & the sales person was very forthcoming with information. I even asked him about a more expensive set (the Peg Perego), and he told me that it was not as good for what I was looking for.

Re: Registry help....

I just registered this past weekend, i'm 25 weeks. We registered for one of the Graco Snug Rides infant carrier and a Graco Metrolite stroller, we'll also be registering for a snap and go and the Maclaren TEchno. I think a lot has to do with personal preference. A lot of people say the whole travel system is a waste. i dont' know who to believe.

Re: Registry help....

I'm still a little confused...if I don't get a travel system, then I have to get a stroller base for the infant carrier to fit into, and then a separate stroller for once the baby outgrows the infant carrier and moves into the regular carseat???
I don't know why i am having so much trouble understanding this, I guess my pregnancy brain just can't handle this!!!

Chat Icon Poor thing. Just go hang out in a store and test the stuff out...I highly rec. lifting the items and seeing how they feel to you. I see many expectant parents [and some new parents] taking things down, apart and really trying them out. You might be able to make many decisions based on your ease/difficulty in lifting, folding and using the items. Bring a bag of sugar with you to add some weight for the baby if you want [granted, your baby will likely outweigh a bag of sugar, but the weight is there. Also consider the packed diaper bag and your purse you will be carrying along with this stuff as well!
