Nancy, we have this one from Babies R Us. Maybe you should add it to your registry. I like it because you can put it up and take it down with one hand. It's real easy and more sturdier than the wooden ones.

If you need the gate for stairs, I would definitely get a wall mounted gate. We have the First Years Simple and Secure Gate at the top of our stairs. It's very sturdy and handle when holding the baby. To open there's knob that you have to push and turn, so it's difficult for the child to open.

I don't know what they're called, but we have the gates that have a pedal that you step on to get them open. I HIGHLY recommend them. You have to put a tremendous amount of pressure (for a kid ) on them to get them open. My son couldn't get it open, even though he was jumping on the pedal, until he was about 4. They also sit very tightly against the wall.
