 Crazy, shocking story
IVF Story
  To summarize:
Couple goes for IVF, mom is Asian. Couple is told 4 of the 5 embryos implanted are female, but is shocked to learn they are having twin boys. Couple has two boys, neither are Asian. Both end up belonging to two other couples who are being seen at the same practice! Babies are not even related to each other.
They are forced to give babies up to genetic parents. So, so heartbreaking for them.
Couple still does not know what happened to their own embryos.

That is horrifying. You think they would be like 100 % super careful at these places. Talk about negligent. I hope they really sue.

I feel so incredibly horrible for that couple. To have everything taken from them is just gut wrenching. I mean I get why the other family should have their baby, but where is the original couple's embryo?

 Re: Crazy, shocking story
We did IVF with my middle child. She has brown eyes and my husband and I both have light eyes. She looks a lot like me so I always say I think there was a mix up at the lab with the sperm. Sometimes I do actually have doubts even thou I have been assured by my pediatrician that eye color is not as simple as 10th grade biology makes it seem, especially since my husbands eyes are hazel and not true blue like mine. She also looks exactly like my naturally conceived son.... However there is always going to be the tiniest bit of doubt when you do IVF! at least for me... A friend of mine did a genetic test back before ancestry and 23 and me existed, just to make sure they got the right kid. I would not test until they are much much older because I do think that you open yourself up to having to give your child to the biological parents. I feel horrible for this couple.

Funny you mention this. I ordered a 23 and me kit recently for my DH for fun and he just got his results and they are pretty shocking.

As for the original topic , how terrible for those parents and I hope they file a lawsuit against the IVF clinic.

Yeah I def can see that!! DH found a relative he had no clue about. But it was only because he did 23 and me (and so did this other relative) that it came up. My BIL and DH's uncle did the ancestry kit years ago but since this person was not on that database it never came up until now. It was shocking for sure!

Yet, there are so many green-eyed and blue-eyed children born to brown -eyed parents. It is definitely not a science.
And yes, this is an awful thing for anyone to happen to.

Yep my brown eyed cousin and her husband have two kids, one with blue and one green, the 3rd brown. The two with the light eyes favor her, our paternal grandfather had blue eyes and light hair.
My husbands brother has blue eyes, no one in his family has them. He looks exactly like the dad but with blue eyes.

It is very easy for two brown eyed people to have a blue eyed child though because brown is dominant and blue is recessive. Two blue eyed people can not have a brown eyed baby though. I guess the issue is that my husbands eyes are technically not blue, they are hazel, however they are very light so it is very strange that she has brown eyes. Some times I try to convince myself they are hazel but they are brown. Either way, wouldn't change the fact that I love her and she's our daughter. I just wouldn't want someone who may have contributed some DNA to her to think they could fight for some sort of custody. That's why I would rather wait until she's 18. However she looks exactly like my son she's probably ours!

Yes you are right about that it is rare, but if you are carrier of brown eyes it can happen. Probability is lower but it isn't impossible. think of my example, my cousins kids can still be a carrier if brown eyes regardless of who they marry.

I read it or processed your post in my head as the reverse of what I was describing. But it is a scary thought. God Forbid, I would wait to before doing a test like that. Atleast till the child is an adult and no one can take her away. I know thats terrible but how I feel.
With my adopted son they were trying to just give me guardianship and I made the parents relinquish their rights because I was worried my husbands family would come after him later on if we were ever to separate or something happened to my DH. I always think worse case scenario.

 Crazy, shocking story
I'm curious about the couples who are the biological parents of those babies. I know people often keep embryos frozen for years. Can you imagine if you froze them in your 30s. Now you're 50 and someone hands you a baby! I can't even imagine!

Wow hadn't even thought of that! That's crazy! I wonder how often this happens and people don't know! In this case the only reason they knew immediately is because it was glaringly obvious the babies weren't Asian. If the couple and the kids all happened to be the same race they would've just gone on with their lives not knowing this one very important tidbit about their children possibly ever or unless there was a DNA test taken like ancestry at some point down the line. That's some scary stuff! How awful for this couple! And how insane that those babies aren't even related!! How does the lab make such an egregious mistake?! I wonder what happened to their embryos. Imagine they were accidentally implanted in another Asian woman (the odds of that are probably low) and the babies are already a few months old?! And that poor woman has no clue those kids aren't hers until she gets a knock at the door. I was always fascinated and freaked out by switched at birth hospital stories, but with IVF I wonder how often this kind of mixup might happen. How does a couple trust that the lab is taking extreme precaution behind the scenes not to mix up something so important?

 Crazy, shocking story
I wonder if there could be someone out there right now who is carrying the original couples babies and doesn't know it. I mean, those embryos could have been implanted in someone after this woman got pregnant. I wonder if they are testing everyone who is a patient there and currently pregnant.

I also wonder how the couple feels. Like is it a blessing and surprise miracle or do they feel disconnected for the baby. It’s really emotional to just become a mom one day with no preparation or not becoming one on your own terms.
