Allergic reaction to bug bites
Does anyone's dc have a reaction to bug bites? No matter how much bug spray I put on she always gets eaten whether it has deet or not. She currently has 6 swollen bites from this past weekend. I do the Benadryl cream and Benadryl at night and I know if they get to a certain point a Drs visit is needed. We go through this every year.
Anyone have a reaction and do something different? I'm open to ideas. Poor kid is a mess and she's only 4 and knows the drill. Tonight she got her cream out of her basket before she went to bed because 3 of them are really bothering her and asked for her medicine aka Benadryl.

Allergic reaction to bug bites
Not my DD (that I've seen so far) but me. Every bite I get turns into a hot, giant softball. Nothing completely helps, but hydrocortisone and ice take the edge off.

It scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. She got bit by a horsefly at a fair 2 years ago. It ended up getting infected because she scratched it in her sleep. I feel so bad because bugs love her and she loves the outdoors. She's so nonchalant now about these massive welts because she is used to them.

I'm in the same boat. My son gets huge welts and they are hot to the touch. Dr. said to do exactly what you are doing. I should buy stock in Benadryl.

Allergic reaction to bug bites
My son gets bad reactions, the area would be hot and extremely swollen. I've had to bring him to the doctor a few times. I've tried bug lotion, spray and wearing long sleeve tops and pants and he still gets bites all over his face. What I love is the Benadryl Itch Stopping Gel. I apply it as soon as he is bitten. It really relieves the itch and swelling.

Re: Allergic reaction to bug bites
I get very bad reactions to bug bites. Like the others have said, they swell huge and get warm and itchy. Very uncomfortable, but not much to do. I use topical Benedryl and if it's really bad I take the oral, too. Ice helps relieve some of the swelling.

Re: Allergic reaction to bug bites
I am allergic and have been dealing with this for decades!
some things that have worked for me: a salt/water paste.-a this is good when you don't have anything else available, but don't use before bed b/c you will wake up with a bed sheet of salt crystals
icy hot!! not sure if I would use this on a child (read the label) but it is BY FAR the best thing for me. I used to keep re-applying benedryl but it never really got the redness/swelling down. but after I tried icy hot (I was desparate one night, so just tried it by fluke), the redness was gone completely and swelling minimal.
you cant use it pregnant or nursing, so I haven't used it in a while...but once im done with the baby stage, I will def be back to icy hot!

Re: Allergic reaction to bug bites
I get swelling from mosquito bites and have tried just about everything. I just picked up one of these Bite Helper so I don't know for sure that it works yet but I'll try almost anything.
