Another day, another derailment causing lirr delays
MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- New Jersey Transit service was disrupted in and out of New York's Penn Station following a minor derailment Monday morning.
NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Train 3926, the 7:31 from Trenton, experienced a slow speed derailment while pulling into track 9 at Penn Station at about 9 a.m.
About 1,200 passengers were on the train at the time.
Five people were treated for minor injuries.
NJ Transit Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Handle and Midtown Direct service was suspended in and out of Penn Station, but limited service was expected to resume at 1:05 p.m. Raritan Valley Line service remains suspended between Newark & Penn station New York. Midtown Direct trains are diverted to Hoboken for the remainder of the day. Riders should expect up to 30-minute delays during the afternoon peak period due to track constraints at Penn Station New York.
Amtrak said Acela Express and Northeast Regional service between Newark and New York will be subject to delays, but it is running as normal. Keystone Service may be modified. Empire Service remains unaffected.
Most passengers were able to disembark the train onto the platform. However, hundreds of passengers on the rear four cars could not immediately exit their train because the cars were not in alignment. They were led to the platform by NJ Transit personnel.
NJ Transit says it is cross-honoring tickets throughout its system with buses and PATH trains, and the LIRR is advising riders to expect cancellations and delays for trains departing Penn Station between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Train service before and after those hours is expected to operate with minimal impacts from the derailment.
The service impact results in limitations on track and platform space at Penn Station as crews are expected to continue to respond to the site of the derailment and make track and infrastructure repairs.
Amtrak owns and maintains Penn Station's tracks and infrastructure. While the LIRR normally has use of nine departure tracks from Penn Station, Tracks 13 through 21, the LIRR expects to be limited to fewer tracks and platforms than normal.
Service is expected to operate normally from Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, and Hunterspoint Avenue, Queens. Service is also available at Jamaica and Woodside, but train cancellations may impact service at those stations.
Investigators from the Federal Railroad Administration are en route to Penn Station.
The derailment comes a week and a half after an Amtrak train partially derailed as it pulled out of Penn Station.
It scraped the side of an arriving NJ Transit train on March 24. No serious injuries were reported.

I know. So did I. I had to do a double take on the date. I find it very bizarre that these things always happen on Mondays right when we drop a ton on a monthly ticket. Like clockwork.

Another day, another derailment causing lirr delays
Due to an earlier New Jersey Transit derailment, the LIRR anticipates cancellations and delays from Penn Station during this evening's rush hour. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Although the LIRR was able to operate normally during the off-peak hours, four of the nine Penn Station tracks used by the LIRR for the evening rush hour are currently not available for our use as a result of the derailment. With only Tracks 17-21 available to the LIRR, our service capacity from Penn is reduced by almost 50% during tonight's PM Peak. The LIRR will provide normal PM peak service from Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and Hunterspoint Avenue. Trains from those terminals normally have some available seating capacity.
