More conversations with a toddler....

So I'm watching a show with my 3 yr old and suddenly he points at the tv and tells me:

DS: look at that human (yes, he refers to ppl as humans, lol)

Me: which human?

DS: that one, she's brown!

Me: ohhh, yes she's a different color than u, just like I'm a different color than u, and so is ur brother. We're all different, isn't that cool?

DS: (with a surprised look in his face) yes, cool!

What surprises me is that there are different races among his friends and just now, at 3 yrs old, he's realizing diversity. Beautiful moment to teach a beautiful lesson Chat Icon

More conversations with a toddler....

DD has been getting up at like 3 am for some reason the last few nights, looking for me, and then going back to sleep. So last night I ask her:

Me: Can you please do mommy a favor?

G: What?

Me: Please stay in your own room tonight.

G: (looks at me) : No Mommy, that is not a favor. A favor is 'Mommy can you please help me with this' That is a favor.

Me: (Shakes head)

Staying in your own room all night will be a great favor!! LOL!!

More conversations with a toddler....

My 2 year old has some doozies. I've been using the word compromise a lot with her lately- like if she only wants to wear pjs and not get dressed- I say lets compromise and you can leave your bottoms on and change your shirt, have breakfast, then finish getting dressed. Well she's caught on and will get so mad if I say the word- no compromise! No!

Then there's this pretty much every morning:

Hayley- mommy! Look at that new fridgerer! They built that for you! They threw the white one out and we got a new one! Look at it!

We got a new refrigerator 6 weeks ago lol.

And this one-
Ever since we started potty training Hayley, she praises me whenever I go to the bathroom.

"Good job mommy!"

"You did it!"

"I'm so proud of you!"

And this-
Hayley- we gotta find fireworks ok? They make your boo boo feel better and my boo boo and lilas boo boo and daddy's boo boo feel better.
Me- fireworks are going to make our boo boos better?
Hayley- yep. We feel better.

And this-
Hayley- remember when I threw up on the penguin blanket and it was blue and there were noodles in it? Remember?

And lastly this-
Hayley: hey!
Me: hay is for horses!
Hayley: no, hay is for Hayley!

These are just the ones I can remember lol.

3 yeAr old dd loves to be naked. The minute she gets home she has to strip. It drives dh crazy because we have a glass front door and she likes to stand in front of it.

Dh - why are you naked?
Dd - I don't like clothes
Dh - you love clothes
Dd - daddy I am home. Being naked at home is freeing.
Dh just shakes his head.

My 3 year old cracks me up on a regular basis. Some of my recent favorites are

Me: put your shirt down, you shouldn't show your belly like that when we're in the front yard and there's people around.
Dd: but what about tigers?
Me: tigers?
Dd: can I show my belly to tigers?
Me: ....I guess so?

And

Me: (as dd is covering my clothes with stickers) why don't you stick those on something you're going to keep since I'm going to put these clothes in the wash soon.
Dd: (very innocently) but...I'm going to keep you!

Me: (confused look in my face)

Chat Icon it's funny how kids take what we say so literally. Ive said to dd things like "you can have a snack while we're driving" and she'll be like "No. YOU'LL be driving and I'LL eat my snack. I don't know how to drive"

Re: More conversations with a toddler....

LOL these stories are so cute!!!!

My friend was just telling me other day she made her toddler a calendar and put it on the fridge - sticker for a day when he is being a good boy, X on the days he's being a bad boy. If he's a good boy for the whole week, he gets a prize at the end.

One day, he was being bad so she put him in time out and a red X on the calendar. That night, he was busy drawing in the corner. All of a sudden, he produces a Mommy calendar with an X for being a bad girl today for putting him in time out. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD's new thing- she can't do whatever (potty, clean up toys, eat dinner, get dressed) because she a. Did it yesterday or b. Will do it tomorrow.

And we're officially in the Why? phase.

When my son was about 3.5 and I had just picked him up from preschool:

Ds: Mommy, when will I turn brown?

Me: What do you mean?

Ds: Jacob is brown, and Andrew is brown. When will I turn brown like them, when is it my turn?

I also had this convo with my daughter at about 5/6, in the restroom at a restaurant (she was just learning to read):

DD: Mommy, why would someone come all the way to the bathroom for a napkin when there are some right on the table?

Me: Ask me again when you're older.

Sitting on the couch with 3 yo DD two days ago and she burps. Looks at me and says I'm a piggy! I bust out hysterically laughing.

She's been saying/singing shake your booty. I wasn't really paying attention and after a few times, realize that was what she was saying. I asked her if she learned that at camp and she looks at me sheepishly and says yes.

She's starting to go potty a bit more on her own (such a looong process) and she is telling me to sit down b/c she apparently wants an audience, is saying look at me, and wants high fives! Lol

One night in bed (we co-sleep).
Me: (I'm kissing her all over her face)
Gianna: Mommy, I love these kisses...How am I going to live without them tomorrow when you're at work?
I just about died, it was so cute.

Dd is obsessed with the poop. The bigger it is the more impressed she is and everyone has to know about it.

On Sun we are at the zoo and she went to the bathroom with dh. She comes running out and announces loudly to everyone at the food court

"Mommy, I pooped. It was really long and brown like the snake we just saw. It didn't look like a brain like the poop I had yesterday."

DD: Steak (lol)
Me: Ok..What do Pandas eat?
DD: SHAMPOO!
Me: Do you mean Bamboo...
DD: No...You're silly Mom!

Chat Icon this just reminded me of the time dd and I were waiting for the bathroom, and a woman came out and dd announced loudly that she didn't want to go in there because " that lady pooped and it's stinky" while the woman was standing right there washing her hands. Chat Icon So embarassing!
