It happened again....
A 27 year old New Yorker was visiting her mom in Massachusetts and was attacked, raped, murdered and possibly set on fire during her jog at 1pm in the afternoon. May she RIP and they catch the sick fck
I saw this- so terrible. Oddly enough we (DH, me, my DD and her BF) drove through Princeton MA yesterday leaving Great Wolf Lodge- Google maps gave us an indirect route to avoid the toll. The part we saw was very rural and pretty and had that small-town feel. The community must be devastated.
I hope they catch both killers.
Just saw the second story. speechless

Very frightening & sad that her life was taken that way. I know the area well & my son's teacher grew up with this girl. My feeling is that it was random, some sketchy evil person happened to be there & saw her & took the opportunity. Just terrible.

I hope they are looking into the followers on both of these ladies' instagram accounts. Both joggers, both attractive, both from NYC. I dunno, could be a stalker out there. So sad!

I woke up at 5:30 this morning to go for a run and saw the news of the second murder before I left. Needless to say I skipped my run and realized no matter what time of day women really shouldn't ever run alone. So scary.
So many prayers for both of their families

My DH doesn't want me running by myself anymore. I've been going out at 6:00 a.m. for over a year. In the winter, it's dark, but I go with a friend. Today she cancelled, and I literally ran in circles in my backyard and did jumping jacks to break it up. After these two ladies, plus local instances at Belmont Park and Lindenhurst (saw on a local FB page)....my husband seriously wants me with a friend at all times. It's hard to find people to run with that early, and who can actually run at the same pace. Horrific tragedies for these women and their families.

Re: Karina Vetrano
I am not sure if this is against LIF policy or not, but yesterday a handful of Howard Beach residents, along with Karina's parents, set up a gofundme page -
https://www.gofundme.com/2javwd7g
The goal is to supplement the $20,000 reward being offered by NYPD/Crime-stoppers in hopes of reaching $100,000.
For those of you that are members, this can also be found on the Private Facebook Howard Beach Moms group and Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic Group.

I live in an area with a great paved walking/biking trail and have an easy wooded hiking trail 5 minutes away. In the past I've thought nothing of walking either on my own or with my DD but I don't know if I will anymore, at least not without pepper spray or something. Princeton MA reminded me a bit of where I live- kind of rural, lots of open space, quiet. Both cases have really rattled me.
I read earlier today that police in MA are not ruling out a connection between the two cases.

Did you guys see her blog? She speaks of a guy approaching her during a run. It is so weird and cryptic.

OK that was really weird. And didn't make a lot of sense. Like it was written while high.

Re: Karina Vetrano
Is that site a public site of all her poems? Wow.
Clearly she was creative. And it makes you think. Did she meet that guy while jogging? Or in her mind she met that guy?
Almost odd to the degree of what happened. And if this guy did exist; is this the guy?
So many questions to that poem. Just so many.

Her blog had not been updated in about two years, so likely it is unrelated. Just an uncanny coincidence.

May I ask what happened in Lindenhurst?
I copied this from a local FB page. True or not, it still scares me.
LINDENHURST & NEIGHBORING TOWNS We were just notified about an incident yesterday (7/27/16) involving an attempted assault on a female runner in the Lindenhurst area. The woman was running and had a male come up from behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and attempting to pull her with him in a very obvious attempt to do 'something' to her. Thankfully the woman started screaming, kicking, and hitting, which eventually forcing the man let go and run off. He put his shirt over his head (making an ID difficult). This happened during an early morning run. We want to warn women to be extra vigilant, and to be on the lookout for any suspicious characters. If you pass someone, and then see them again in a separate event, please do whatever it takes to get yourself out of harms way. Men too should be aware as it could be your information that helps find this person. If you do find yourself in the same position this woman found herself in, do everything you can to fight back; make noise, hit, scream, kick, use your elbows...whatever it takes. PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR FRIENDS, COWORKERS, ETC...THIS PERSON IS STILL OUT THERE!

You're probably right. It's just so odd to me.
I feel like her instagram and blog were so public and she most likely had a stalker. A stalker that read that blog maybe and re-created it. Who the heck knows. So odd. The whole thing though is extremely heartbreaking. And her Mom. Seeing her lash out. I would have done the same thing. It's so hard to keep yourself composed during a rough time.

Re: Karina Vetrano
And there was this in Sayville back at the end of June: This was shared in a group I am in on FB:
Sharing this post-just 42 minutes ago- from the Sayville fb site..not arousing paranoia, just be safe and since we are so close, thought to share.....NOT my post... "My husband was alerted by a jogging woman that a woman was being attacked in the wooded cut through area between the Sayville high school and Bluestone. The woman who was attacked was very beaten up, he said, and the police are searching for the guy. There is a perimeter set, he tried to cross the stream behind the baseball field and failed, but he can't have gone far. Please alert 911 if you see a heavily bearded man with a blue shirt on. I'm sure they will nab him. Be safe."

I want to add that there was a brutal rape in Rockaway Beach where I live, a few weeks ago. It did not make the media except onrockaway.com covered it. No arrest. I understand the mother of the rape victim spoke at the meeting in Howard Beach.
Some in the Rockaway fb groups speculate a possible connection. Maybe dna will tell. We are quite scared out here

This was a different situation. This turned out to be a bf/gf and drugs were involved. He was caught.

Re: Karina Vetrano
I highly recommend everyone look into Damsel in Defense. My neighbor sells their stuff and I bought a stun gun to keep in my car b/c I drive 60miles a day alone (between work and school pick up drop off). Road rage is insane.
I also carry pepper spray.
If you're a runner, protect yourself. these items are small enough to carry in a belt pouch or on you while running.
Its f**king scary what our world is becoming. I watch too much Investigation discovery network.
I dont even want to go out for a walk after 8pm anymore.
