The phrase 'life-altering'
Do you associate seeing the words 'life altering' as referring to something negative? Am doing some editing and I feel like it makes me think of something bad. I feel like 'life changing' can go either way but that's been used a few times already.
TIA.

The phrase 'life-altering'
same here. not sure why, but it does make me feel that what's coming after those words will be negative.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
I don't actually. I think it's totally interchangeable with life changing.
You can ABSOLUTELY "alter" your life for the better.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
No, not at all. Altering = changing.
Having my kids was life-altering, and the best thing I ever did.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
No, to me it just conveys change of a significant magnitude (lol is that an oxymoron) but not necessarily good or bad.

The phrase 'life-altering'
No. I think, "how much money would I have to win in the lottery for it to be life-altering?" LOL

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
By definition, they are the same, but the feelings elicited from the phrase, for me, are typically negative.

Same here, but my boss disagreed. Seemed to be split here too so I think it's ok. Thanks everyone for the input.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
I think it sounds negative. Even life-changing sounds negative to me. I think this is because when something changes your life (even if it's positive), it still affects you in some way and not in the best way at times.

I give a positive association, but I know it can be used in a negative sense too.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
I think it is positive. I mean I could win the lotto and that would certainly be life altering.

Re: The phrase 'life-altering'
Life-altering to me means anything that changes your life significantly. I do not view it as good or bad, it depends on the circumstances.

I don't actually. I think it's totally interchangeable with life changing.
You can ABSOLUTELY "alter" your life for the better.
This. First examples that come to mind are having a baby or winning the lottery.
