if you DING someones car
The wind blew my door open as I was getting out and I left a small ding in the car next to mine. What do you do?

A tiny, little barely noticeable thing? If so, then nothing. Dings and nicks happen all of the time, part of owning a car.
If something was REALLY noticeable or damaged, I'd leave info. But in this case it sounds like you wouldn't have caused much damage with just your door opening so I wouldn't really sweat it nor would I have left info.

Leave a note but also take a pic to protect yourself. Also keep in mind the ding might be a bit of your car's paint on their door which will come off easily. I did that to someone's car once, the woman was in the car so I gave her my info and told her I'd pay out of pocket. She wanted $300 and it turned out that the ding was just my dark gray car's paint and there was no other real damage.

Usually nothing. If it is a tiny mark I leave it alone. If there is noticeable damage then I would leave my information.

Just a super tiny ding....nothing. Now if I take paint off or any large damage, I leave a note.
For me....dings happen.

No unless real damage. My car is a 2016 and I can't believe the amount of dings we have already on both sides! No notes have been left

Nothing. I have never had a note on my car for a ding and I don't leave on others. I feel like that's just one of those things that happens to everyone. I certainly don't run out and get it fixed
How bad of a ding was it

I've had my car dinged (and worse) so many times I've lost count. Someone put a giant dent in the side of my brand new car a few months ago. So no, I'm not leaving anyone a note for a tiny ding.

Right, when I was in college I came out of the book store and the ENTIRE front end of my brand new week old car was smashed in to hell. Assuming someone was in drive instead of reverse in the spot acroos and hit the gas. No note............nothing.

If I leave significant damage, I'd leave a note with my info. I've had people smash my doors and not leave anything so as a courtesy I choose to not be a d&*k to other people because it sucks. But for a tiny ding, nope.
I will never forget years ago when a woman in a white mini-van that had stickers all over her car saying "Volleyball Mom." smashed the entire passenger side of my tiny altima. Although my car is ancient, still not cool to not leave a note for the the big stuff! The reason why i know it was her's is pieces of my car were still embedded in her bumper.
