And to clarify: when I said I was surprised he was alive, it's because we have had countless police shootings where the person ended up dead (I won't argue if those were or weren't justified).
But this man was shot for no reason.
None.
I'm sure they will find some reasoning though.

Some new info.
Statement from North Miami police chief said that the 911 call and witnesses said there was a man with a gun threatening to commit suicide and that is what the officer was responding to. However, no gun was recovered.
So, when you get there and see the situation is not what you thought, you reassess and act appropriately. I have zero police training and know that. This is just unbelievable.

Unfortunately, right now tensions are so high that I think this poor man was seriously the product of a jumpy high strung cop. Cops now are a target as the media flashes story after story of "unjustified justice." Black lives matter; white lives matter; all lives matter! Unfortunately the day and age of cell phones and videos has allowed is in to see the worst of humanity and people use this for gain and platforms. There have been crooked cops for as long as there have been cops, but no one had a camera phone in their faces as they took "the ride downtown boys," if you know what I'm saying! The vast majority of cops are not racist gun happy fools and are now out there in the streets with targets on their back because they are in blue. There are always mistakes and I am no way defending unnecessary force or people doing awful things to others because of race...but to make this a black vs blue issue is just not the right way to go. Many of the other cases that are causing this hysteria have so much more to them than what the media portrays and the respect level for police as a whole is at an all time low. I was always taught shut up, put your hands where the can see them and listen to them. That's it..nowadays people almost seem to antagonize them so they can be the next YouTube or viral video. I feel bad for this man and I think this shooting is just showcasing the spiral that spinning out of control now because of cops killing blacks, black killing cops and all the other nutjobs out there looking to take out others for no reason. It's a sad sad world now...

I have no words. Just sadness. Because this will again cause more police shootings? killings. I will worry about our friends and family that are police officers.
The officer saying I don't know why I shot you, is basically him reacting to the situation with anxiety and being scared with all the tensions building. He was not able to do his job correctly. If this is causing our policemen some kind of depression or anxiety this is not a good thing. It is affecting our police officers judgments and so far from what I saw this man did everything correctly. Sorry that man got shot but thank god he is Alive.

I saw this on GMA this morning. It's completely disturbing. It is so friggan unbelievable to me that a cop would act like that, ever, but especially given the current state of events. He wasn't alone. He had other officers there as back up. The poor guy is telling them that the patient had a toy in his hand. He did everything he should have and he gets shot? To me, this is so much more of a black and white scenario (no pun intended) then some of the other cases. It's really unacceptable. I'm just glad this guy will be okay.

Do I also think in some cases the actions of some of the victims could have been different. Yes
I actually think this video is a great example of why we shouldn't lump all these cases together bc every one is different with different circumstances
But to say a statement like that for me means that these days cops just walk around shorting at any black person walking around. they see

Saying is each case is different (imo) and have different circumstances and a comment like that lumps every officer together in a bad light.
I didn't read her statement as lumping all police officers together.
I read it as saying that as long as police officers operate with impunity, you are going to get the few extremist/bad apples acting at their worst because there is no fear of reprisal. And that this is one of those cases.
NOT that all officers are bad.
I could be totally wrong though.

It makes me crazy when you don't hear the whole story. It's not clear to me why the video is cut and only before/after is shown. It is also the person who was shots perspective or only 1 side to the story.
If further investigation revealed nothing else transpired in between the before/after video and this man was just shot for no apparent reason in the leg, which seems unusual, then I will be outraged. In my opinion people jump to conclusions with half information and partial facts and that is part of the problem.

I tend to agree with this statement. We need all the facts before passing ANY judgement or making a conclusion.
It's all speculation until then.

I think this line of thinking only perpetuates the problem further. Not all cops are trigger happy and quick to use their weapons.
What if the role was reversed and a black man shot a police officer. Would it be okay for me to make this statement?
There has to be a resolution. A resolution that brings safety to ALL citizens regardless of their color or occupation.
