Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
Literally in the last year I have sent 1 wedding gift (couple eloped) a baby shower gift (I couldn't attend) a baby arrived gift (the baby was premature) and no joke 2 baby gifts to new baby arrivals and not one of these pple have sent a thank you note. And not even a NOTE but a text or email even to say thanks or even acknolwdge it was received!!
And these are good friends, nice people, well educated, who function with jobs in every day society and they can't bother with a 3 second text to say thanks.
Meanwhile I had a baby 2 months ago and somehow managed to SEND the gifts.
I hate having to ask oh btw did you get my gift, giftcard, letter, card etc?!
WTF!!

I am BIG on thank you cards. I send a thank you for everything lol. I know people are super busy. Shit, so am I. But if someone has the time to acknowledge me or my children you better believe I can find a couple of minutes of my time to write a quick card and walk myself to a mailbox. Im with you!!

Yup I've noticed this too with some of my friends. It's just plain rude not to acknowledge a gift. I'm not even expecting a long hand-written note, a simple text would be nice!

I completely agree! Manners aren't a priority anymore. It amazes me that people find the time to plan and host birthday parties, showers and weddings, but when it's time to sit down and write a thank you to the guests they are suddenly way to busy.

At this point I would take a bunch of frikkin emojis sent via text. It is SO RUDE. The friend who I sent the wedding gift to just passed the 1 yr anniversary so it's not like I am expecting anything right away but geez. I was worried my gift never got there bc I 4got to track it so weeks later I asked and they said oh yeah we did get it. ANNOYING!!

It is so rude to not send a thank you. It is one of my biggest pet peeves.
I am still waiting for a thank you card from a wedding I was in 4 years ago!

I'm with you 100%. Not acknowledging at all is rude. I always send a heartfelt thank you for gifts. I think only once I didn't send one but I talk to this person constantly.

I am so very guilty of this recently. My mom had a sprinkle for me. I bought the thank yous and planned to write them out when I went out on leave. That week ended up being insane and then DS came at 39 weeks. I have a DD and breastfeeding my son was a nightmare the first 3 weeks. Needless to say I never got around to it. So now here I am and DS is 2 months old. The sprinkle was in March. I keep going back and forth if it's ridiculous to write them now after so much time has passed.

Understandable and not ridiculous at all. I think when you have the opportunity, write a few of them at a time. No need to do it all at once. That's what I did.

Re: Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
I'm huge on thank you cards and usually send them immediately after the function. I barely get thank you cards from others but when I do, they are usually (not joking) three months late or more. So if it's only been 3 months or earlier, maybe you are just "rushing" them and maybe they will still show up...

Ahhh me too! I even made really cute thank you cards with my Cricut machine and I'm so on the fence of whether to send them or not!

Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
This shit makes me crazy. Our basic niceties are completely gone. I held a door open for some young shit the other day. He never said thank you, I (being the wench I am) said "you're welcome" louder than normal. He responded with "you want an award" no shit break, just a common thank you. People suck and its out of control.

Ladies, please send them. Find the time. It is so rude not to. Id rather get it 2 month, 6 months, 2 years later then never. If people can make the time to do something nice for you or attend an event then make the time to send the thank you.

That's the thing- I even made the time to make them and write them out! I just still have to address them. I've just been embarrassed and then rethinking it- like maybe doing a photo card with a baby announcement and write a thank you note on the back?

Re: Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
i HATE thank you cards they are waste of paper as soon as i get them i throw them out. i read it in 2 second and it goes right in the trash. the only ones that dont get thrown out are picture ones
i have sent them out for wedding, showers, and baptisms mostly because i dont want to hear the complaints but i do not sent out thank your for any of my children bday parties. i thank them in person when the arrive and hand the gift again when they leave and i attach a thank you to favor i am not sure why another one sent to their house is needed.
However to get one in the mail and not acknowledge it all is plain rude. I always at least call and/or then send a thank you card. I would be calling to make sure they got it to make sure it wasn't lost in the mail and then hopefully they feel bad for not acknowledging the received the gift!

Agree..
Very rare that something offends me, but it really bothers me when I don't get a thank you - especially for a wedding and ESPECIALLY for a shower gift! I sent my son's communion thank you's literally 3 weeks after. I am a FTWM and still managed to find the time.

Re: Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
I can't wrap my head around the amount of times that I send gifts and don't receive thank-you notes. It's common courtesy and takes maybe five to seven minutes to write and address one card.

Guilty of the late thing. I sent out the thank yous for my shower in May. My shower was in March. DD came 3 weeks early and between that and life I got busy but eventually I got them done. Took me like 2 weeks to write them out, address them and go to the post office
To the OP I usually don't receive thank yous when I send a gift anymore. Doesn't bother me but I could see how it would bother someone else.

Re: Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
I don't get much in the mail. Most all gifts received have been in person and I thank the gift giver when I receive the gift. I am terrible at written thank you notes. I think I am a generous person and give often. I never expect a thank you note. I'd say it is half and half amongst my friends. Some send a thank you card/note for everything. Others are silent like I am.

Re: Is it so hard for people to say Thank You?
I've given gifts and not received anacknowledgment that it was received/liked/whatever.. A formal thank you note, I personally don't care about getting. A text that the child is enjoying the present or whatever the case may be means more to me than a formal note.
I'm also guilty of being bad at sending these things out in a -- I guess you can say appropriate-- amount of time. I'm historically completely disorganized and plan to work on that. It doesn't mean I'm not appreciative and 90% of the time I'll message the person privately to thank them for the gift anyway.

I hear ya! I do give people a bye though for new baby gift. Even though I found the time to write a fully handwritten note after my dd's were born, that's one event where I understand the level of chaos.
