I am SOBBING now, SOBBING. There was just a picture someone shared on FB in my feed. it was a tiny little body covered with a baby doll laying next to it. I cant, I cant...........I honestly was out of tears to shed every.single.week. this happens, but it broke my hear into a million pieces over.
Omg that was my fear. How so many young children and families were there. I can't even see the pictures I'm happy I didn't see that
Edited. Ugh I saw it.
Im SO SO sorry, I wish you hadnt. One of those images that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I wish I could unsee it. I really do.

The attack was not claimed yet by anyone. So this is premature to make such comment as well as disrespectful. Many muslins were part of the victims. This is Nice. Many muslins live in the South of France. the assailant is a Muslim from Tunisia. Isis claimed responsibility. Both sourced from reddit.

On top of that picture I just read an eyewitness account I will never ever get out of my head. I literally feel like I could throw up. I just went to tell dh what I read and I started hysterically crying. It was about a baby...
I'm done reading the news. I really can't handle it.

I do find the comment disrespectful for the reason stated. There are so many Muslims in the south of France. Let's not disrespect them who also may have lost family members.

It was a nasty comment insinuating that Islam is a religion of hate and war, because you know the actions of radicals represents the religion as a whole. But I bet she doesn't think the planned parenthood attacker represents all Christians.

This is not tolerance, this is intolerance and whether the intent is there or not it perpetuates the same fear, hatred and ignorance that is being displayed by those extremists. Just saying!

Heartbreaking. There really are no words. Not to get all philosophical, but this world, with all of its evil and pain, must be some sort of purgatory we have to go through. I can't look at the images of this. I just can't.

Exactly. There are other factors involved in this that a lot of people don't completely understand (myself included).

At least 80 dead in Nice on Bastille Day
Can someone explain to me what Isis's goal is? I'm guessing maybe it's intentional but I never hear that part mentioned in the news. Do they want everyone in the world to convert to their religion? Are they just doing all of this for no reason?

Re: At least 80 dead in Nice on Bastille Day
I think it surpasses religion at this point. ISIS has been coordinating bomb attacks in Baghdad, on Muslims, during Ramadan in the last couple of weeks. They have been targeting these people after sunset, knowing they will be out, moreso than on a regular day.
The New York Times has had a few articles regarding their recruitment practices. A lot of time it's young kids looking for a sense of belonging being recruited by pure psychopaths.

I can't explain the goals of ISIS, but there is a whole Algerian and North African tension in France that has been going on for decades. I believe there is also racial tension going on, too. This is why France has been targeted so much (not that it makes it right!). It's worrying.
I also think it's important to remember of all the terrorism going on in Turkey, Syria, etc. France seems to get more coverage because they are more western.

Peaceful religion.
But it is.
My husband was praying last night and this morning for peace, for the victims, for their families, for the first responders. Much like I am sure many other people did. Maybe you did as well.
My husband is Muslim.
He - and his family, and extended family - are as upset as anyone else about these attacks. In the last few days of Ramadan, the attacks that happened hit close to home. Literally. The attack in Dhaka happened a few blocks away from my father-in-law's office and my husband's aunt was at the very cafe that was attacked 24 hours earlier. Istanbul. Dhaka. Baghdad. Medina. These are ALL predominantly Muslim locations.
These terrorists are targeting many groups, INCLUDING Muslims.
The end of Ramadan is called Eid, and it is usually a day of celebration. This year was vastly different - we sat with his family members here (his parents are in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as well as much of his dad's side of the family) and mourned the events. We could not talk about anything else; it was impossible to feel celebratory when so many had lost their lives in the false name of Islam.
During Ramadan, Muslims give Zakat - money to charity. For the past few years, my husband and his family give their Zakat money to a school that his uncle opened for orphans. Money for these kids to get a good education, for them to be housed, clothed and fed...and for them to be guided toward being productive citizens and not be prey to groups like ISIS.
So, please try to avoid such a broad generalization. It would be akin to someone saying they fear all young white men because of Aurora, Sandy Hook and Columbine. Or all Christians because of Planned Parenthood bombings.
And if you'd like to learn more about ISIS, I encourage you to follow Rukmini Callimachi on Twitter - she has in-depth knowledge of what ISIS is and reports on it daily.

It sounds very similar the way American street gangs recruit- when you mix poverty, a lack of male/adult guidance, impressionable kids and opportunities to belong to something big, you're never going to have a good result.

Is there a head of Islam? (Similar to the Pope) If there is why dont they stand up and say this is not what we're about and encourage people to stop this? Maybe this has happened and the media just doesnt report it?

It is. Joining a terrorist organization is also a last resort to those who are trying to avoid it. I know this is a jump, but if anyone ever has an opportunity, take Psychology of Terrorism at John Jay as a non-matriculated course. It won't excuse a terrorists behavior by any means, they are wrong. Period. However, it will give you a very different viewpoint as to why they join and what happens to them and their families as a result of not-joining or failed suicide bombings.

Yup.
The article I posted is long but very informative for anyone who really wants to know more. Overall, ISIS doctrine harkens back to a medieval, militant Islam, a literal translation of the Koran.
Meanwhile there are millions - if not billions - of people who consider themselves Christians who do not take the Bible literally. Because there is some stuff in there that is just batshiit crazy. But Christians don't get painted with the same brush the way Muslims do.
Plenty of violence has been waged in the name of Christianity. People forget that because the more prominent, widespread efforts (Crusades, Inquisition, etc.) ended hundreds of years ago. But ask someone who lived through the more recent Irish "troubles" or the genocides in Yugoslavia what their experience has been with Christians and/or Catholics waging war in the name of their god, and see what they say.
