Re: Tube top romper - appropriate for work??

It's sad when 40 year olds think they are still in their 20's.
(putting it out there - I'm 49)

A blazer or cardigan will not help make the outfit business appropriate. That she has been given warnings and blatantly disregards the warnings indicates she is not professional nor cares enough about her job.
Business casual in my corporate office is strict. Men must wear button down shirts - no polo/golf/tee shirts.
Jeans are prohibited, as well as shorts, tank tops, flip flops, anything considered beach attire.

The younger girls here dress like they are going out hooching. Chat Icon

Yeah I thought this chick was in her 20s too.
I have one here who would wear things that pushed the envelope all the time too- like black stockings that were designed to look like thigh highs with a lacy design up on the thing and then a short skirt to show it off.
But she was 23

Still so inappropriate but I'd be willing to give the 20 yr old the benefit of the doubt that maybeee some way somehow they just don't know what's expected of them in their first formal work setting (though still can't see how, don't most colleges and high schools go over this sort of thing before students go into the real world and obviously they got past the interview stage so they were aware how to dress and once hired got the employee handbook with dress code spelled out, but whatever i'll give them a chance to figure it out) but 30 or 40 yr old?? Should know better.

Honestly I'd be nice and give this 40 yr old woman just one more chance to take her job seriously. I'd give her a copy of the dress code and explain final waning and Next time she's gone. And then i'd follow through. Plenty of people out there want her job. How embarassing that directors from other depts have to bring it up now. Looks poorly on her direct supervisor.

I don't think it looks poorly on her direct supervisor. She is continually trying to address it. Unfortunately we are dealing with an HR dept that is afraid to fire anyone. I have pushed for termination previously and in this situation and they will not pull the trigger. It's laughable.

Uff not a good situation, what's the point of a dress code then, their inability to address this sets a bad example to other employees about consequences.

Totally inappropriate, eapecially for a 40 year old. She should know better. At my old job, we had casual half day Fridays. One of my coworkers (in her early 20's) came in wearing her bikini, denim cutoff shorts and a tank top cause she was going to the beach after. I was absolutely shocked. She always wore shorter than appropriate skirts too. Her dad worked at the company too, so she got away with a lot.

For my firm, no definitely not. But I guess it depends on your company's policy and how specific it is.

Also, I think strapless is ok if you wear a jacket and no one knows it's strapless i.e., you keep the jacket on. But a rompers and shorts, no. Knee length skirt or pants not for fitting and made out of some kind of fabric haha

Looks like something you would wear to the beach. Definitely inappropriate. I am thinking if she has been warned before, maybe she is looking to get fired.

Tube top romper - appropriate for work??

I can't even believe someone would think it was appropriate to wear that.
Is she really that clueless? How is she as a worker?

She's not clueless. She's a button pusher.

Tube top romper - appropriate for work??

If this was the first time I would say ok give her a warning about the dress code. This is not the first time and its the same outfit? Who does that? My office is pretty relaxed and one time someone pushed the limits they were sent home without pay for the day and gave a warning. She was fired not long after it was many reasons but the blatant disregard for the dress code was part of it. I am sure people were using work time to chit chat about her all day and how inappropriate she was dressed.

You obviously know her and we don't so if she's a button pusher then it sounds like someone in authority needs to address that.

If she was an otherwise conscientious and exemplary worker then I would give her the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe, instead of saying FU, she was just trying to solve the problem by putting on a blazer.

But you have to put it in the context of her performance.
