Re: Sort of spinoff to wedding rudeness/etiquette
We invited a whole family- our close friend (he was in our wedding), his brother(that we were friends with), his sister and her fiancé (that we weren't really friends with), and his parents. They all replied yes. Then we found out that his sister and fiancé had no intentions of coming. They replied yes so their cousins visiting from Italy could go in their place. I put an end to that real quick! I was not spending $400 for strangers to attend my wedding.

I wouldn't sweat it. People drop out at the last minute. There's always one or two ppl that include their children that were not invited. In the end it usually balances out.
From the OP, I don't think these are small children though, I'm guessing they are adult children as she said the child is also bringing her Significant Other.
Yes- the person wants to bring her ADULT son and his girlfriend. So it would be two extra full price seats. And there is a space issue at the venue, plus the additional cost.
I know what I would do, but my relative isn't into confrontation and wants to just eat it. I've honestly never heard of someone doing this and think it is the height of rude, but I guess it's actually not that uncommon!
Exactly, the space issue! At our wedding we were at capacity, and how ridiculous did we look when some tables were practically overflowing and then there was another table on the other side of the dance floor with 6 empty seats when the rude people were no-shows in the end.

Sort of spinoff to wedding rudeness/etiquette
Happened to me at my wedding! We had an adult only reception and only invited DH's cousin and wife. We had the response cards prefilled, so the cards said 2 seats were reserved. Well she crossed it out and hand wrote 4. What could I do?? This was my husbands family so I didnt want to start anything. Luckily her kids were so good I didn't even realize they were there!

this happened to me. mil's friends did this. I made her call them to say its only for 2.
they had added another 2 because they needed a ride. um no, your ride doesn't get seats at a wedding.

Sort of spinoff to wedding rudeness/etiquette
Our intentions for an adult-only wedding were to restrict the number of children overall. There are so many, and if I invited one, I'd have to invite them all and between the 2 families, that's 50 kids. I addressed the invites to the adult couples and my cousin called to tell me her DH wasn't coming unless the kids were invited. I tried explaining that it wouldn't be fair, etc. but they weren't having it. I had to suck it up and have her 3 kids there. Of course they were well behaved and cute, but come on... It wasn't the right thing to do.

happens all the time. i do invites for a living. often times i have people doing this now on the reply cards:
2 seats are reserved in your honor
accepts / declines. etc.
already prefilling in the # of seats.
thats just rude and I would totally call the person out on it.
This is what I did for my wedding, worked like a charm.
A friend of mine also pre-filled the rsvp cards, and had someone cross off the preset amount, and state they would be bringing their entire family of 5, including 3 children, when the invite clearly stated it was an adult only affair. People are unreal and will do what the want unfortunately.
