YES! I said this on the other thread, people are CRUCIFYING this woman, people who in a week will not give two shits that this even happened. OF COURSE its the mob mentality.
Its the same thing that happened with the cow on Benners farm in Setauket recently. No one gives a shit about that cow anymore yet for at least a month, that family had to live with death threats, people protesting outside their home, reporting them for random things hoping one of them sticks to try to take down their family business, their livelihood.
This is NO different. Internet Balls. Safety behind the screen. Not having to be accountable for your words or their effect.
I would bet you my home that 99% of these people would never say what they say on the internet about this to this mothers face. However, the internet mob gets riled and all civility is thrown out the window.
In real life, if I knew this woman, I would NEVER say to her, "great job, you failed as a mother." NEVER. I wouldn't say that to a woman who a few days ago thought she might lose her child.
People want this womans head on a platter, her family investigated, her children taken from her, want her DEAD over an ACCIDENT. Was it a negligent accident....fine, MAYBE....but it was an ACCIDENT nonetheless.
I said in the other thread, my sister was run over by a car when we were younger, she was about 8. My mother wasn't there, it was the 80s, kids ran around the neighborhood everyday without the parents outside standing vigil over them. No one was outside picketing her, but had it happened in the age of the internet, Im sure they would have been.
Sometimes I feel humanity is far worse off than it was bc of the internet bc no one is accountable for their actions or their words anymore. The far-reaching effect the internet mob has on someones life, one single person that we are seeing a SNAPSHOT of their life, literally seconds of their entire life and judging them based on that.
Frankly, its disgusting.

Spinoff: Mob Justice. Thoughts?
The harassment of the wrong Michelle Gregg reminded me of when the Boston Bombers were still at large and hadn't been identified. Reddit named a guy, the users of the site ran with it, pitchforks blazing.
It was the wrong guy.
Someone on the other thread mentioned something rather poignant: this will be old news in a week. But what was said and what was done on Internet message boards-the name calling, the harassment- will stick with these people forever.
