Should polygamy be legal?
To each their own, but one concern not mentioned is if it becomes legal and then someone's spouse has multiple spouses without their knowledge.

I addressed that in the original post. Any change in the contract, like all other legal contracts, need to be approved and signed by everyone currently involved in the contract.
Marriages today involve abuse (of the spouse, and the Welfare system), are often spur of the moment, sometimes end badly, and involve underage marriages in some states (age of consent varies by state, so even though a marriage from another state is recognized in NY, it might be illegal to be initiated in NY. A 16yo can get married in some states, but the person would go to jail if they were messing around with a 16yo in NY).

If you mean polygamy as it's portrayed on Sisterwives or Big Love, then yes 100%.
In reality, families like this are rare. Most polygamists live on isolated compounds where abuse is rampant. Underage brides,neglected children. They also abuse government funds- all are on welfare because they're all "single mothers." They're as corrupt as the day is long.
There is going to be corruption and abuse of the system in every walk of life. I do believe that there probably a lot of law abiding polygamist families that are in hiding and so you don't hear as much about them.

Should polygamy be legal?
Um, I don't know. Not if it means there will be 15 people living in the 3 bedroom home next door to me. Where will we all park our cars?
I dont like anyone parking in front on my house and if polygamy was legal that could be a major problem.

Maybe there could be some kind of special parking laws. Like those lifts in garages where you can make parking double decker. "Polygamy parking".

Call me nuts but I find polygamy to be a bit of a selfish undertaking and I feel like if you want to be with a bunch of different people, then just don't get married. IMO, marriage is a commitment between TWO people, not 3,4,5, or more. So no, I don't think it should be legal. I think we should respect the union of marriage as it is and if being with only one person your whole life is not fulfilling enough for you, just stay "single". JMHO.
And from a purely practical standpoint it makes the business of health insurance, divorce, finances, etc. so much more complicated.
For many polygamist it is a deep rooted religious belief to have multiple wives. I don't think it's just that they decide they want to be with a bunch of different people because they aren't satisfied by just one.
And also cultural.

I can see a lot of people doing it for medical benefits if it was legal and lots of legal battles over pensions
