When Donald Trump is considered "normal" you know we're in the shitter.

Just a question.

I think we are in the shitter no matter what

Truthfully I do not buy this argument. I find it's an easy excuse when people just don't care.

If people really, truly cared about the state of our country there is no way Trump would be a nominee. There is never going to be a perfect candidate (and honestly, Bernie Sanders, for all his imperfections and faults is likely the closest you will EVER get to a true politician for the people who is selfless and working for the greater good) but people who truly want to see change would not be sitting around saying we're screwed. They would be out trying to change the corruption, not supporting someone who is the most morally and ethically corrupt of all. Change doesn't happen overnight but no one wants to put in the hard work to make it happen. They think a president can save a magic wand and our country will be perfect. The simple truth of the matter is there are so many deep, real issues plaguing our country that people just choose to ignore.

All I did was ask a question about kasich and yet you sit there and say I am making excuses

Am I not allowed to dislike all the candidates? I never post my political opinions on here bc I don't feel like being interrogated

I have so many questions and would love to post on here and ask since so many are better informed than I am

But the condescending remarks, the make you feel little or stupid comments stop me and probably so many from discussing and maybe even learning a thing or two

Perfectly said Gina

Oh come on. Stop trying to take everything I say as a personal attack. I'm speaking generally - I never said, Gina you are wrong. You're absolutely entitled to your opinion And certainly don't have to like any candidate. I'm not stopping anyone from engaging - but people could try engaging themselves a little more than just spouting off lines they think make them sound so politically ambivalent. I think a lot of times people think of the government and politics as some kind of abstract being - it affects us but in a very indirect way. I don't think people truly realize the deeply powerful and far reaching effects of politics and how what our government does or does not do today will have a huge impact on the world our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will inherit. That's why Trump is such a threat - I don't give a crap if he wants to spout such disgusting rhetoric, but the leader of country cannot and should not denigrate his or her own people and treat them like dispensable commodities.

I am not going to sit idly by and become collateral damage because people think he "tells it like it is."

This post reminds me of a conversation I had many years ago with my husband, who was just a work friend at the time.

He always used to say "I'm not political" when we were all discussing politics. He never voted, etc.

One day, he and I were with another co worker discussing politics and I mentioned that a Republican politician - I want to say then President Bush but it could have been someone more local - was in support of a bill that would eliminate the mortgage interest tax deduction and therefore cost all of us present several thousand dollars each.

The other co worker and I agreed we were going to write to our Senators urging them to vote against the bill, etc. etc. and my future DH got all upset too, thinking of what he could lose.

I said "So...are you still not political?" Chat Icon

It's admittedly not much better now but he does pay a bit more attention since that day and I know I could at least get him to the polls in tight national race.

Anyway, I can't bring myself to judge people who throw their hands in the air when it comes to the system and the way it works. With the electoral college itself, the method of selecting delegates, and the recent voter fraud incidents, it's a shit show. I see why people are discouraged.

I do, however, think that in spite of that we all have a responsibility to educate ourselves. There ARE unbiased sources out there. Read them. Check facts. If your source comes from a shared article on FB, cool - it could be fine. But check its validity.

The "partial birth" comments above are a perfect example. Read the facts. Read the text of Roe v. Wade. See what is really going on. If you are still against Hillary, FINE. But base that on facts, not distortions and lies.

You could have said everything you said in the second part of you're statement and I would have read it and been like great.

It's the first part of what you wrote. Easy excuse/I don't care. I get you are very passionate. And you are obviously very knowledgable. But sometimes compassion, patience and maybe even a little kindness go a long way in trying to make a point

I'm trying to learn more about all of this but it's hard to engage when you feel
As if you ask a question or have a unpopular opinion you are going to get attacked

Why did he never have a shot in this?

He seems the most "normal" for lack Of a better word

Maybe I'm dense but are talking about Kasich? I could be wrong but I don't think Gina said Trump was normal...,

Yes thank you. I was curious why he never had a shot.

Kasich is out

Yup. He is out and Trump is in. Shit is going to get crazy. LOL. Honestly, people like Trump and don't admit it or they hate him. A lot of the media has created a circus with Trump. I do not think he is like Hitler. I don't think he is against women as a huge magazine in the 80's showed him with women that he employs. They said he empowered them. Who knows. All I know is I will openly say it- I will NOT vote for Hilary. That is all. :)

Oh and someone on this thread said people who support Trump are just like him. That is like me saying people who support Hilary have abortions, flip flop their personal views, get kickbacks from Monsanto, etc. Just an ignorant statement.

I would NEVER vote for Hillary bc she supports partial birth abortions, so Trump it is for me

I totally agree... Horrible (NARAL loves her). I'd never vote for her for her radical abortion views.

http://dailycaller.com/2016/03/31/the-amazing-true-history-of-donald-trumps-ever-changing-stance-on-abortion/

In 1989, Trump co-sponsored a dinner honoring Robin Chandler Duke, then-president emeritus of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). The event occurred at the Plaza Hotel, a Trump property. The NARAL organizers announced that they would use proceeds from the dinner to promote abortion through a high-profile print and television advertising campaign.

He's flip-flopped on his opinions several times over the years, like every other decision he's made, but he still wants to support abortions when it may harm the mother, just like Hillary.

I'm not saying any of the candidates are good, just that if this is a major issue, then both front-runners have a very similar stance.

No one on the Republican side had a shot once Trump got in. IMO he owes the corporate media big time for all the coverage he got. Granted, he said so much outlandish shit that they kind of had to cover it. But I noticed that he was the only candidate who had the chance to call into news shows as often as he did. He was even all over MSNBC- which is a left leaning channel. There have been comparisons done of each candidate and how much free media coverage each got and he was far and away the winner.

Sad. Why anyone supports someone who openly makes fun of someone with developmental disabilities is beyond me. I know I say that a lot, but he is a disgrace and an embarrassment.

I have to tell you and I know no one wants to hear this, but I think so many people are like him. Look at this board alone with all the judgemental posts and people making fun of others at times.
People don't want a scummy politician anymore. They want someone who tells it like it is and gets things done and is not in it for the money.

I am NOT saying in ANY way I agree with anything he has said or done BUT I do think that many Americans feel the same way and he just says it out loud.

I agree...the government is afraid of him, because he will see how corrupt our government REALLy is!!!!!

Kasich is out

I just want to say that people keep saying this speaks to where our country is and I disagree, once he gets elected I will feel that way but IMO this speaks to where the Republican party is NOT us as a nation. The Republican voters are the people who felt he was their best option not the American people as a whole and it remains to be seen if America as a whole feels the same way but I am guessing they do not.

But when people say - I like what he says, he tells it like it is...how are you not supposed to think that they agree with his sentiments? They can't say they agree with his potential legislation, diplomacy, view on drugs/crime, his education plan...because he doesn't have any. He's just riling people up with nothing substantive to back his presidency. He makes some people feel like its OK to say they hate this, hate that, ship those people back home, get off your ass and get a job, etc.

this is well said Kitten.

His plans do not add up, financial analysts have agreed on as much.

He has no foreign policy plan whatsoever except that he is deporting, not allowing Muslims in (which should do wonders for us, the Muslim people will really want to help us in our efforts now), and building a wall. I mean how will he get Mexico to pay for it again?!

He just makes statements and everyone cheers....

You know, when I have sixteen people coming at me from sixteen angles, you don’t want to be so Presidential. You have to win, you have to beat them back, right? And, but, I would say more Presidential, and I’ve said this a couple of times, more Presidential than anybody other than the great Abe Lincoln. He was very Presidential, right?"

This is exactly how I feel. And to be honest, I feel that none of the other Republican candidates were a good pick (except Kasich).

I think Someone else said it up higher in the thread – but the way I feel about it is that you truly need to leave your religious beliefs out of politics. I have relatives who are Republican who were so turned off by all the God talk from Cruz and Rubio. And the fact of the matter is that many Republicans are slowly becoming left leaning on social issues… but maybe they are conservative on financial and foreign affairs.

All in all, I think it's hard to appease to the masses. I think the country is changing, people are fed up, people want to feel instant gratification, people are sick of the tired politicians who are full of shit. They are seeing that our govt is in shambles.

After whoever is picked, I dont think that we will be seeing a Republican president in a very long time. I also think the two party system is going to slowly diminish.

Your comparisons are interesting.

Trump doesn't flip flop Chat Icon ?

Abortions are probably the worst example of your point. It's very common for women to support abortion rights but not want one for themselves.

Even without the inherent fallacy of your points, I do think it's different regardless.

Trump's statements speak about the core of his beliefs.

That is the danger of avoiding actual policy talk - we're left to see he's just stating his opinion. And anyone who doesn't repudiate him either shares that opinion or condones our country embodying that opinion as its public image.

Kasich is out

So this post was originally about Kasich. Now, it's about Trump Chat Icon whatever keeps him on page 1.

John K is a very moderate Republican who isn't as "strict". In the past 2 elections, McCain and Romney didn't pull through for the Republicans, so this time they decided that their nominee had to be very strongly Conservative/Republican.
Kasich certainly isn't that, but after superConservatives like Cruz and Rubio pissed people off, he did come across as the most "normal" and moderate. I think he would be a perfect VP pick for the Republican Party imo

That is the danger of avoiding actual policy talk - we're left to see he's just stating his opinion. And anyone who doesn't repudiate him either shares that opinion or condones our country embodying that opinion as its public image.

See, this doesn't bother me, since Obama was elected on the "Hope and Change" platform.

My problem with Trump is his "see a need [for his candidacy], fill it" approach. For example, he needs the pro-life vote so, presto, now he's pro-life despite hosting charitable pro-choice events in the past. He wants to woo the voters who supported former candidates and, boom, he's considering naming them as either VP candidates or cabinet members.

He's just saying what people want to hear to get their votes, but never explains "how" he is going to do it.

IMHO, his whole campaign is smoke and mirrors. However, if he is elected, I do believe he will surround himself with the best of the best, but that belief is not enough to make me a Trump supporter.

Well I guess since there is no one left but Trump, there is no one else to talk about lol.

I agree and was so disheartened when Trump said on CNBC this morning picking Kasich was unlikely. He mentioned Sessions, Carson, Christie and Giuliani but I think that was for his cabinet not VP.

Kasich wasn't controversial and therefore less publicized. And sadly, most people, won't take the initiative to investigate all of the candidates to make a fully informed decision and only know of the information that's thrown in their face constantly.

I HOPE he surrounds himself with smart, experienced people who can talk him down off of some these ridiculous ideas. I mean he really can't do any of it without Congress on board (thank goodness for checks and balances!) but he needs to stop even the diatribes about them. My bf is active duty military and Trump's complete lack of diplomatic skills have me up at night wondering where he will deploy when this loon gets us into WW3.

Terrifying! I am actually very nervous that he could win. His economic plan would destroy the economy. You can't cut taxes on the super rich, increase military spending, deport 10,000s of immigrants and build a giant wall. Increased expenditures with decreased money coming in doesn't work.

I am also fearful of the impact of his nomination on the stock market. Economists seem to have no clue either. I have read everything from catastrophic stock market crash to a simple shift in what stocks do well

I don't see how anyone who isn't hate filled can support this man. His economic policies will cripple the country, and on other issues, he simply doesn't disclose his plans. He supports violence for goodness sake! He flip flops on his statements constantly (and often within a week or less of saying it). All he seems to do is belittle others and yell Build that Wall.

I am not a Huge Hilary fan, but Trump is a horrible human being who incited others to be horrible human beings.

Re: Kasich is out

In all seriousness, I dont know what to do. I usually loyally vote my party - democrat - but I dont know if I can even do that this time.

I dont support Clinton, but I sure as hell cannot get behind Trump. Honestly, if we had a respectable Rep Nom, I would consider crossing lines and voting Republican just to keep Clinton out, but I cannot do that with Trump.

Clinton is a liar and I cannot get behind her. I dont trust her, but Trump, even politics aside, liberal vs conservative aside, he is a DEPLORABLE human being, just a horrible horrible person...regardless of his party/being conservative.

Seriously, if say Kasich had won the nom, even Cruz maybe, I probably, for the first time in my life voted Republican. Now I cant do that either.

I may just have to vote indie. I wish the outcome was Bernie vs Kasich.

This sucks.
