Thanks to those who gave honest advice. We are working on keeping her in the house. We have a cat tree, scratching Post etc, plenty of cat toys. For the record I'm not an irresponsible pet owner who doesn't care about other people and their property I just saw how happy she was to be outside it was like I had a different cat so i really didnt see the harm. I was talking to a friend who Suggested getting another cat so she has company. Does anyone know if animal shelters will let a potential cat that you are going to adopt visit with current pets to make sure we get along? Don't need to be breaking up cat fights lol

You can foster with intent to adopt.
I know KittyKind does it, they are in NYC.

I love cats! You can't help where she goes, sorry. Sorry to your neighbor... she needs to understand.

Isn't there something like wolf urine spray that she could put by her back door or something that cats hate that would keep your kitty away from her back door? And damn those yappy dogs for pooping on your lawn Chat Icon

I'm sorry this is just dumb. SHE should just understand? Bull shit. Keep the cat indoors. I don't want cat shit on my lawn. I don't want a cat peeing on my lawn. Be responsible as a pet owner or don't get a pet. Plain and simple.

I know it must have sounded dumb I'm sorry. Let me explain where I'm coming from... I had a cat growing up who loved to get out. Even though he was an indoor cat , we had a hard time preventing him from running out. He basically did whatever he wanted... He occasionally went to our neighbors but mostly stayed in our backyard. He pooped in the beds if the dirt was dry. My parents hatteddd it. But the idea was that the cat was an animal and we couldn't help it.
Now I have a dog. He's well socialized and trained, and my comments were based on the idea that cats aren't.
Just my opinion

I too find it odd that people are saying there's nothing you can do...

This isn't a stray feral it's a pet.
Pets are to be kept safe by the owner which means not allowing them to roam neighborhoods freely.
I'm sure my dogs would love to spend the day using our neighborhood as their playground but as a responsible pet owner there's reasons why that can't happen.

animal fights, cars, poisoning, theft by someone..etc.
I would continue to train your cat to be an indoor cat or buy an enclosure if they need to spend the days outside in your yard.

You opened my eyes to something I hadn't considered... Thank you.

I have a cat, and I love, love, love, love cats. My parents' neighbors had the same issue - cat would run out or sneak out, and the house next to it has a dog. We used to call him the neighborhood "watch cat". The cat would sit on the fence, and this poor, poor dog would lose its mind. He would bark just go nuts until the cat left (which it never did). The dog owners asked the cat owners to please keep their pet inside, because when the dog owners were at work, and the cat pulled this stunt, the dog would shred the house apart, and it wasn't fair to just lock the poor thing in a room, or the basement.

Anyway, one summer day, the cat went missing... it was terrible for everyone.. people thought the dog got to him, or maybe he was kidnapped because he was so friendly, or whatever.. it was a horrible, horrible summer. The cat owners kids had flyers up, increased the reward..it was sad for everyone.

Also, I recall from TV show, that if a cat is so used to being outside, to put a kitty harness to take it for a walk to get the urge out.

Both dogs and cats are domesticated animals. You need to train them. Just because a cat may be more difficult to train than a dog, doesn't me that you throw your hands up and let it do whatever it wants.

My dog would run out of the house the first chance he had, but we are very careful when opening the front door. Either someone holds him or we put him in another room if we need the door open for an extended period of time. I never understood why it is seen as ok for someone to let their PET cat roam on other people's property. It's just not.

I just saw a video (well I didn't actually watch it...can't stomach that kind of stuff)....of some bald eagles taking a cat back to their nest and eating it. So that's enough reason for me to NEVER allow my cat outside. Of course we don't have an abundance of bald eagles here, but we DO have hawk's here that have been known to swoop down into yards and eat small animals, including rabbits, small dogs, and probably even cats!
