i called in sick and have gotten 3 work calls already

If I was out of the country they'd probably still be calling my ass. I'm a middle manager for the love of god I don't run the place nor own the place!!! They are running me into the ground and I hope they think i'm out interviewing. I am doing job applications today

I only took one call. The other 2 went to vm and i'm sitting here writing this post and not listening to it. I'M OUT SICK!!! Does this happen to you guys?

And that is when I refuse to put down a sick day and use it as a work from home day. So rude unless it is a true emergency!!

It has happened to me while on vacation and sick. I have answered in the past and the last time it happened is the last time. I was on the phone and texting with the manager and a co-worker for 2 hours. We do not have the option to work from home. I was actually home to take care of my sick kid! I made the decision to not answer work related calls anymore.

It depends on the job. When I was working I got calls every single time I was out. It was expected. I called called when sick, when on vacation, in the middle of the night. The only time I didn't was when I was on a cruise because they wouldn't pay for the phone coverage lol. Needless to say most of my vacations were cruises : ).

I will NEVER answer when I am off the clock I don't care how many times they call or if it's an emergency. I refuse to work on MY time. I work hard and get all my stuff together. I refuse to do it once then they will expect me to answer when ever. Not happening!!

I used to be a slave and answer emails at crazy hours of the night (while on vacation!!), answer calls that came to my home at 8pm (I work a corporate job and technically my day should end at 5:30!).

I recently went on vacation and told them there is no wifi and since they don't pay for my phone i was OUT! since they i removed my work email from my phone and i've turned over a new leaf - i can't do it anymore.

This happens to me all the time! Like you , I do not run the place but I am surrounded by incompetent ppl that would rather bother someone on vacation , day off or sick day than to make a call and figure something out on their own. PPl are unbelievable!

I hate that! It's not right if someone is sick leave them be.
My Dh has not a had one sick day or vacation day including the day my kids were born that he hasn't had work phone calls. It's sooo annoying and makes me crazy. They actually had a meeting a few weeks ago about my Dh and our up coming vacation. They were all told no one is to call him unless it's an emergency. I doubt they will make it more than 1 day before they call.
