Heroin addict squatters living on block

We recently found out that the house a few doors down has squatters living there. They also happen to be heroin addicts.

To my knowledge there is nothing the sheriff can do because of situations with the bank and whatnot.

Does anyone know what I can do to take action and get these people out of there? There are strange cars there at all hours of the day. I have an 8 month old and my husband works overnight and I'm all alone.

Any input would be appreciated.

Have you tried calling your local police precinct?
If there is drug activity they should be able to at least do something.

I had this issue at my former home. It's awful. The only thing we could do was call the police every time we saw something happen (which was pretty useless because by the time the cops showed up, it was quiet but at least a record was being created). Also, we lived in a village so I would call the village to complain too. At one point they boarded up the house.

i would agree with this - I am sure by the time the cops come, it will be quiet, but the record is being created. if it is bank owned also, see if you can find out which bank it is, and call them to see if they can board it up so they can't stay there.

we had a similar situation next door to us also (drugs, squatting) - they never gave us any issues personally, but we knew the house was bank owned and the guy shouldn't have been living there... there was no electric, water, gas etc.. and he was still living there.. not quite sure how.
he went MIA for a few months, and it recently got boarded up.

According to a neighbor, they found out that the bank is in a different state and that the owner just left without notice.

I have to really get the full story and figure out what is going on there.

Thanks for the input.

Ugh so sorry you are dealing with this! I would call the cops so at least it's documented. From what I have heard from a neighbor, about 7 years ago (we didn't live in the house at the time) there was multiple people living in a house off a cross street by me whose son was a heroin dealer and there were major issues. The person was watched for months and then was subsequently arrested. From what I have heard the family is still watched even though their son is in jail. Not sure how factual this is, but these people may be watched without you even knowing. Do you have an alarm system? I love having an alarm, helps put my mind at ease.

I would try to find out what bank it is and try calling them. It is in their best interest to keep the house free of damage and squatters.
If that doesnt seem to work then I would contact my local county or town representive and keep complaining to them

Call the local police and the town. We had them nearby and the town code enforcement came in with the police. The town can then make the bank secure the house. Securing the house won't really keep them from coming back but it helps a bit.
