Flu question

Realistically, how contagious is the flu? My nephew was diagnosed with type b (started getting sick Sunday night)...we haven't seen him in about a week, but they live with my mother in law and she babysits my kids (did all day today). My cousins son was diagnosed today and started getting sick Sunday night also...my kids were with him all day Friday and Saturday (like slept with him because she was babysitting them). Likely we are getting it??

Flu question

It's pretty contagious but there's no guarantee you'll get it.

DD2 and I got the flu at the same time. DD1 and DH were fine. DH got it somewhere else like 3 weeks later.

2 years ago, DH got the flu while I was being induced with DD1. The baby and I were fine.

Re: Flu question

You are contagious from what I read, 2 days before you start showing symptoms. And yes, it's very contagious.
DH was diagnosed with it on a Wed, (had been sick since maybe Monday) me and DD started showing symptoms of it by Friday evening.
We tried our best to take precautions but living in the same house, it was nearly impossible

I say to start them on Elderberry syrup ASAP. It works better than Tamiflu.

ETA_ DD had a flu shot and still caught it from him. It depends on the strain and if it was including in the shot this year

No flu shots. It's not the end of the world if we get it, but we've had a tough week...my daughter broke her arm skateboarding this week, so I really don't want to have to take another day at work.

Start taking Elderberry every 4 hours like now.
I swear to you, it helps

They have DH Tamiflu and it was the biggest waste of money- it didn't do crap for him. He was sick for over a week.

I took elderberry from the time he was diagnosed and although I got it, I was better quicker

Is there a kids elderberry syrup or is it all the same? My friend owns a natural food store and I'm heading there to look.

Re: Flu question

My daughter had it recently and we were all together before and during and basically took zero precautions. Neither me nor my son nor my husband got it.

I had it last year - even with the shot - and nobody else in my house got it (and it was over a weekend and DH had to work so I had the kids on my own so wasn't able to quarantine myself).

The flu is contagious. We DONT do flu shots in my household. My DH got the flu, but no one else in my house caught it.

Flu question

It is contagious. But it's HOW it's spread that you need to focus on.

Just being contagious doesn't mean you automatically get it being near someone. It's the basic of opportunity and access. Nose, eyes, mouth and sharing of germs. You can be around folks with the flu every day and not get the flu. You can be around a person with the flu for 10mins or less and catch it.

I think I've read around 10-15% of household contacts get it. Kids are probably more likely.
