Is this drug use?
I have a co worker who has been going through a nasty break-up the past month and a half. She's been acting unstable the last few weeks (crying for no reason, saying she was trying to commit suicide, etc.). The past few days, she's had the following:
1. pale, gaunt, sickly look to her (as if she has a sinus infection)
2. Hyperactive - tons of energy (she is blaming it on caffeine), talking very loudly and fast
3. Incessant scratching (blaming it on detergent)
4. Complaining of extreme anxiety
Are these signs of drug use? If so, then which ones? I don't know if I am crazy, but something about her doesn't seem quite right.

Is this drug use?
hard to say- some people just display odd behaviors when going through extreme stress. She could just be in a bad place, and it's causing extreme anxiety and weird behavior

Hard to say but don't ignore either. Do you have an EAP dept that you could ask?

She was great, very hardworking but always a little dramatic. Now she shows up late, always with a poor excuse (car trouble, forgot to set alarm, etc). Seems overwhelmed by the job, can't complete assignments, and easily distracted (always on her cell phone texting). She was hyper the whole day, then by the end of the day crashed and looked like she would fall asleep.

I would speak to your supervisor about it or even human resources. It's concerning when somebody's behavior changes dramatically.

Maybe bipolar? And extreme stress is bringing it out more?
Definitely scary that she said she's suicidal. She def needs help

Could be manic. Could be using coke or other stimulant, but the itching is usually related to opiates or meth.

We had someone at my job that was showing similar symptoms. She was using heroin.
