Idk

If when you give me the gift in day thank you, attach a note that says thank you for coming and for the gift to the favor bag. Then when you leave say thanks so much for
Coming have I not thanked you enough?

No! you nee to get down on your knees and also write a note, then call them the next day as well and then they need to thank you for the thank you and you need to thank them for thanking you for the thank you!

I harken back to the Seinfeld clip I posted earlier..

Oh, and don't forget to mail a ty card, just in case u didn't hear me when I said thank u at the party or on the phone or in case u didn't read the note I attached to the goody bag, as a matter of fact, forget about mailing the ty card, deliver it in person! Chat Icon

Actually flowers or a a fruit basket would be a nice gesture as well. Just in case they didn't get the thank you in the mail.

I'm not a card person.
I don't think it's necessary. I don't over think things.

My girls are in kindergarten and I would guess maybe 2 Ty cards received out of 10 parties.

I send thank you cards, I think it's important for my child to learn these types of lessons at a young age. I never understood the argument that it takes too long, or it's not a good use of time. I've been to parties were the hosts manage to plan a party with 40 kids, but can't find the time to send a thank you to acknowledge a gift given. Not a big deal but I think we are becoming a very entitled society

I dont know if they are "necessary" but I do think it teaches your child etiquette and to be appreciative. If they do it when they are young then they will know to do it when they get graduation, wedding, etc gifts.

Plus its nice to get an acknowledgment that your gift was actually received. I couldnt make a party recently but I left a gift card in the child's mailbox. I never heard a thing. I would have even been ok with a text or email from the mom. Now I just think they didnt get it and it was stolen.

They are absolutely necessary. If I don't teach my daughter now that when someone chooses a gift for you you thank them, when will I teach her??

At most of these kid birthday parties as soon as you walk in the door the party host grabs the gift and shoves it in a big bag for the birthday kid to then take home. There is no acknowledgement of the gift. If someone took the time to select a gift and come to my party the least my kid can do is send a thank you.

we USUALLY send them (there have been times when we haven't), if my child thanks you as you hand them the gift and thanks you as you are leaving, you're covered. Child is still taught to have manners and thank people for thinking of them

We've been to a lot of little kid parties and I can only think of one that didn't send a thank you card. I really only remember because I was paying attention to see if most people send them for kiddie parties. In our area, the answer is a definite yes.

I still send them, especially for my kids, i want them to show their appreciation for someone that picks out a gift that they think they would like and comes to their party to celebrate their day. I write the card, they sign their name (ages 6 and 4).

my mom always made us do this and i do the same. how else are they going to learn to appreciate things and be thankful....it's a teachable moment for them.

Are thank you cards still necessary

I want to do thank you cards, but I don't. I had the one birthday where the kids opened the gifts so fast I couldn't write down who gave what in time. I've received exactly one thank you card from someone in my DD's class, and that was 3 years ago, so I kind of feel like I'm off the hook there. My DS's birthday is at the end of June, and it's only been 1 year so far but there's actually not enough time to send thank you cards back to school to be handed out before school ends, and since I don't have all the addresses, it's not like I can mail them. For that reason I've pretty much given up on it.

Wow, it never occurred to me not to give a thank you. It's better to overdo courtesy then fall short.

I don't remember the last time my girls or their friends wrote a thank you for birthday gifts that were given a party. They are now 10 and 12.

Yes I do write thank yous and teach DD to do so (plus phone calls to immediate OOS family) as I feel necessary for various occasions.

The last kid party I went to (7yr old) , she handed out the goodie bags and said thank you to all her guests.

I thought that was fine.

what I am hoping to do with the upcoming kids party... Is get a picture of the whole group... Then get order photo thank you cards with it... That way, they are motivated to keep it cause their kid i on it, and when kid is grown up they'll be excited to look back at it( TBT FBF) lol. cause I wonder how many parents actually print pictures.

This is what I usually do and love it because it's a great memory but I forgot to take a group photo. Chat Icon

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

I don't think it is necessary. We used to write TY cards for DS's birthday parties, but the favors were only a favor. On his past birthday party we gave an ice cream gift cards as a favor, plus a note saying thank you. Later we sent an email to the parents saying thank you (for the kids coming and the gifts...) and attaching some pictures. The prior year I recorded little videos of DS saying thank you for each gift and I sent them in a text message separately to each parent - but we didn't have more than 10 kids, so it was easy to do it.

Interesting to hear the people who said they are rarely received from class... My son is now in his second year of catholic school. first grade ... and every single kid both years gave thank you cards after the party.. Either the kid wrote the whole card or the parents wrote it and the kid signed their name..... Its so cheap to pick packs of the cards up at the dollar store ..

Back when he was in daycare, it varied whether he got one or not and one was even in the favor at the party(which was fine too). I don't really care if he gets it because its just another clutter.

I feel like it's something that's fading away… We only received one from all the parties we've been to the past few months… However, I was raised to always send them… my mother still harasses me to this day to make sure we send them! . So we send them.
