if at the end of the party each guest received a gift bag with a favor and a label thanking them for coming to a 5th birthday party? Thoughts?

Are thank you cards still necessary

Yes, I'm a firm believer in sending thank you cards. I personally think it's rude when I don't receive one.

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

I would say yes, etiquette calls for a thank you note when a gift is received but I find them so unnecessary and such a waste of resources. You already thanked the gift giver in person, but then you have to send a note that once received gets tossed in the garbage. The tradition should be done away with.

Yes, but we attend a lot of parties, and rarely receive a thank you card. I still send them out

For a 5th birthday party? My opinion is no. I think thank you cards a little out of control at this point and they feel like an obligation most of the time. I feel like a verbal thank you in person means so much more than a card that someone felt forced to write. I only think thank you cards should be sent for weddings and showers where you can't always personally thank someone.

If the gift was not opened at the party, then yes.

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

I don't think you need a thank you card for a 5th bday. Five year olds can barely write! I think a little something in the goody bag is good enough.

When they get to be older, then yes, but I wouldn't expect a thank you card from a 5 year old.

I send thank you cards but I think the thank you on the goody bag is fine.

Totally agree. I also did thank you's when the baby was born and for the 1st bday party. That's where it stopped. I always text or call or even send a pic with LO and the gift (the pics are usually for relatives). I have no problem getting them, but after I read it then it goes right in the garbage.

Yes, I always send thank you cards. My DD helps to write them so they are coming from her.

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

I've always sent them but I'm getting to the point where I feel like it's such a waste of time................when it comes to the kids that is. They say thank you to everyone in our family when they open their gifts, we say thank you again as everyone leaves, and then I always text my family after the party and thank everyone for their gifts and for celebrating with us. It's starting to feel redundant to send a card that says the EXACT same thing I've now said THREE times.

When I did a kid party for my DD where she didn't open any gifts at the party I sent out thank you's but with our family parties, it's feeling like such a waste of time at this point to bother.

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

Honestly, I always thought they were unnecessary. I'm not much of a "card" person.
So, I think for a 5th birthday party, they're REALLY unnecessary.

ETA: Just don't let my mother hear me say that. She's the "Thank You" card queen. Chat Icon

As a host, I love giving gift bags at parties and I think that's a representation of u being thankful to ur guests for coming. But I don't think every event requires a thank u card, for example sending ty cards because of a baby shower it's great but sending ty cards for every kids bday? I don't send them and I don't expect them.

I have never not received a thank you card from a child's birthday party. While some are much more elaborate than others, we always get one. At 5 they were written by mom and signed by the child. Nothing crazy, just thank you for coming and thank you for X gift. A few were photos of the child holding a sign saying thank you and they signed it. I have even seen fill in the blank thank yous. I know parents think it is rude to not do something in our area. I don't think you have to go crazy, but just thank you for X gift is appropriate. It takes no time to write one sentence and then just have the child sign it.

Re: Are thank you cards still necessary

I always put a generic card in goody bag saying thank you for sharing my special day with me...etc. I think that is fine
