If you have three or more small kids...( car related )
What kind of car do you drive? We were just surprised with a third pregnancy and now I need to get a new car, because my car seats don't fit three across.
My kids ages will be 3, 20mo, and a newborn.

Chrysler Town and Country- best decision ever, especially with 3! Can not go back to another vehicle that the doors and trunk do not automatically open until all the kids are able to open, get in and strap themselves in independently!

Don't have 3 yet, but eventually plan to. The MDX will likely be our next car

My sister who has 3 young kids, also drives a T&C. If you don't want a minivan, my DH's friend's wife drives a Buick Enclave and loves it.

I didn't know it had the option of a third row as well. Just took a look and I really like it! Def a contender.

Re: If you have three or more small kids...( car related )
Glad you posted this because I'm in the same exact situation. Ladies with the MDX, are you still able to access the third row with the 3 car seats in? Is it a 7 or 8 passenger truck? If that third row is up, how is the trunk space?
I have a couple of concerns (not just about the MDX but any of the 3 row trucks). One, will you still have any trunk space if the third row is up and you have to put a double stroller in the trunk?
My other concern is the third row in general. A few people have said to get an Arcadia because it has captains chairs and one kid can access the third row easier. It looks like there is almost no room between the trunk door and the third row so I worry that if there is a rear end collision, that person in the third row is in danger. For that reason alone, I don't really want to use the 3rd row regularly. Does anyone have any comment about that? I was trying to do some research on which SUV scores best in rear end collisions but I wasn't really able to find much.

Our best bet is to get a minivan, but I just can't get myself to be on board with that yet.

I had a Pilot with a bench (8 seater) and now have an Enclave with captain seating (7 seater). As for your first question, if you have bench seating with 3 car seats, no you can't easily access the third row. You would need to climb over the seats, remove a car seat or go through the trunk. Different trucks offer different trunk space with the third row up. I have more trunk space now then in my Pilot. That said, you can also leave part of the third row down for extra trunk space. A mini van will offer you a lot more trunk space then any truck with a third row unless you want to go really big like a Suburban.

I drive the Honda Odyssey and once my DHs lease is up, he's planning to get either the pilot with captains seats or the Acadia.

I have a Toyota Sienna. Hands down best decision ever! I was so against minivans not even 3 years ago. It's great! Whatever you get though, check to make sure it fits 3 car seats. Our 2013 highlander did not, that's why we switched.
This website is good but it's not really updated with 2016 yet.

Not doing it. I'm more inclined to bungee my oldest to the roof than buy a mini van. I can't lose all my street cred. It's bad enough my kids have made me fat.

Thanks for this. We used to have the Pilot as well so now that you are saying the Enclave is bigger, I'm going to check it out. I don't want to drive anything bigger. My DH has one of those big pick up trucks and I hate driving it and I hate trying to park that thing even more.

hahahaha That's what we said. We just couldn't do the mini van but there are not a lot of options. We went witht hte Highlander and captains chairs. olderst dd can get to the 3 rd row. But there is LIMITED trunk space. Especailly with a stroller. But I will deal. It's not like I do huge shoppings on my own
ETA the 3rd is a 60/40 split. So dd will be in 40 and the 60 side will be down witht he stroller. DC3 is not here yet so once he/she is we will figure out how to store everything

Get the minivan. The sliding doors are great. We rented an SUV on vacation and I missed my minivan! We have a Sienna and I love it, but I might get an Odyssey so I can put 3 across the middle seat. I'm not sure if it would be easier getting to the center middle seat or getting to the third row.

Re: If you have three or more small kids...( car related )
I had the same - I had an MDX and I could get three narrow car seats across the back. I had a third row but I would have had to buckle from the trunk, so it was just easier to buckle them all in the middle row. When the youngest was 2 I got a Buick Enclave with captains chairs and it works well for three kids.

I love my minivan. Seriously so much space! I am able to jump to the back of the van when needed and move around freely. Last year I tried to give it up and get an suv but I loved the space so much. I would go for a suburban but it's not in the budget right now. Plus it's huge and a pain to park.

I have 3 kids, but they are now older. I am on my second Buick Encalve. Loved it. No complaints.
My lease is up in May, so I just ordered a Yukon XL. I need the space. My kids are now 12, 10 and 4.

Re: If you have three or more small kids...( car related )
We have a Honda Odyssey. I fought tooth and nail bc I did not want a minivan. We had the Pilot before which I loved but honestly could not fit our family. The 3rd row was a pain to access and there was no trunk space. The final straw came when we were always having to shove the double stroller and single stroller in and quickly close the trunk before they would fall out and one stroller whacked DH in the head and he said this is crazy!
We finally traded it in (it was only 2 years old ) to get the minivan. It is so much more convenient with 3 little kids. No issues with trunk space. I have 2 car seats in the 3rd row and one in the 2nd row and we still have room to take 2 other people with us (sometimes my niece and nephew come along).
