I tried to read with an open mind but nothing he says makes any sense. I just don't get it!

That's a problem I have with all politicians and why I can't seriously watch the debates. None of the candidates ever fully answer the question presented to them and instead they segue into discussing their prepared answer.

Maybe he is becoming more politician-like. LOL.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Difference is, when the other candidates revert to their stump speeches they actually remain coherent. Lol

And he told chris Matthews today that women who have abortions should be criminally punished and all abortion should be ban.

I give up!

Well, stoning women does work in some parts of the world...

As to the whole controversy of this event, I can't see it well in the video. That being said, I'm not going to ignore this woman's claim.

I read a really good article about how women are seen as liars Chat Icon

http://www.rolereboot.org/culture-and-politics/details/2013-11-how-we-teach-our-kids-that-women-are-liars

And you know it's somewhat true. I think if something like this happened to a man, it would be slightly different.

Ugh, such disturbing stuff in that link.

Not to bring up another controversial topic but this is why I have grown to hate the debates that pin women against each other - SAHM v FTWM, etc.

We need to just support each other more.

I think reporters can be absolutely relentless and that battery is a stretch here.

But this quote sums up EXACTLY how I feel about how far this buffoon has gotten in this race. I keep praying for Kasich to somehow pull off a Hail Mary.

I am seriously so scared about the point that we have gotten to with this horses asss. I just cannot wrap my head around how anyone can remotely support him.

As a mother of a little girl I cannot understand how someone who supports him and has a daughter can look in their faces and say 'I support this womanizer, racist pig who does not want to see women succeed in this world, who thinks women who get abortions should be punished, who calls women fat pigs, who thinks sexual assault is expected in the military, that pumping breast milk is disgusting...But I will vote for him regardless'

This scares me

I think (hope) that his popularity has more to do with the public's disgust with the establishment and less to do with Trump's positions. Honestly, his new stance on abortion really has made my blood boil (previously, I just rolled my eyes at his platform).

ITA!!

ETA: My mom and I were talking about him this a.m. and I told her I feel like he says the most awful things almost like he's trying to sabotage himself. Like, who says these things?? That person CANNOT be serious.
But, then we realized that that's just him.

Serious question...whats wrong with what he said about abortions?
WAIT!! let me finish. I'm not saying abortions are wrong (I think everyone should be able to choose)

Isn't what he said something like this:
"If abortions are banned, then whoever gets one should be punished"

Whats wrong with that? (I'm NOT referring to whether abortions should be illegal).
Isn't he just saying - "If XYZ is the law, and people break it, then they should be punished"

Isn't that like saying "If its illegal to drink orange juice (even though that would be a stupid law) if you are caught drinking orange juice, then you should be punished"

There's a MMA fighter named Nick Diaz who was suspended for smoking weed. The general consensus is - "There's nothing wrong with smoking weed, BUT it is against the rules (even though its a stupid rule) and he knew it and he broke the rule so he is getting punished"

If abortion is made illegal, the law would have to read that life begins at conception and, thus, intentionally terminating a life would be murder. And, what do you think the punishment is for murder?

What the punishment would be is not relevant. The end story is that if you break the law you should be punished.

(Now if the law should be passed is a whole other story.)

As much as abortion rights always seem to be on the table as something that might go away, I never thought about how the law would be enforced, or what would happen to a woman who had one. The idea that a woman could get 'caught' is disturbing. I imagine law enforcement would need a branch to focus on arresting women and doctors.

How did it work prior to 1974 when abortion was illegal I wonder? Were women and doctor's who participated in illegal abortions arrested if caught? I would imagine so...

Even the serious pro-life movement does not advocate punishing women. They seek to punish the providers.

This then goes into birth control... what about Plan B? Does this fall under his "ideas" that women be "punished"?

Where does it end with him?

Everything about this man is TERRIFYING for women.

But, who's committing the crime: the woman who is pregnant, the man who inseminated the woman, the doctor who performed the procedure? Given there are multiple criminals, perhaps conspiracy or accomplice charges will become available. It's a slippery slope...

You're talking specifically about the law and the associated punishment. I'm not commenting on the exact law or what the punishment would be. I'm Pro-Choice!

I think what I and the other poster is saying is, if a law is passed and there is a punishment associated, then the punishment should be followed thru. I don't think you have to be crazy Trump to believe this. (Then again we are a world full of special snowflakes who always think they should be the exception and never have to take their punishments.)

If its against the law, you get punished. Period. Now, should that law be on the books and what the associated punishment should be is totally different.

It's not a crime to impregnate a woman so the man would not be punished.
I would imagine that if abortion were illegal the doctor's who perform illegal abortions would be first and foremost to be punished, and I guess the women who seek them out as well.

Nothing is ever so black and white, and the issues always lie within the gray area (i.e. exceptions, etc.) Without context (which is what I am trying to do), there can be no analysis or conclusion. So, I cannot agree that punishment is always required when a law is broken.

For example, do you think Jean Valjean in Les Miserables should have been punished for stealing bread when he and his family were hungry with no food available to him because he was poor? (Totally joking here, but I hope it gets my point across. LOL).

I guess. Again I wonder how it was enforced back prior to Roe v Wade

I understand what you're saying, but in my mind it is black and white.

If there are a list of "OK exceptions" then maybe the law definition should be revised to include those exceptions or that law shouldn't be a law to begin with.

I don't think that the person that Jean Valjean stole the bread from would be OK that the bread was stolen, as he could have used it to feed his family. So yes, the bread owner would probably want Jean Valjean punished. But what do I know, I've never seen it. Chat Icon
