Pinterest scam warning
Warning for you and your parents.
My mom used Pinterest a lot and clicks on a lot of shady free template sites. She makes cards, scrapbooks, etcetera.
She got this strange pop up message warning her that her computer was infected and not to close out, reboot, etc. she called the number on the screen for "tech support".
Thank god it was my mom and dad as dad is not so sharp. She claims the tech support was very smooth, talking about firewalls, Internet security, etc. then asked for $250 and credit card info. My mom smelled a scam and hung up.
Warning. They prey on older folks not internet savy. I had a talk with her and forbid her from any computer help except from the Apple Store at the mall or our family members who work in IT.
Another time they got a weird email from the bank and I told them only call the number on the official website or back of your card. Seems that was ok, but I have to keep reminding them
Just sharing ad these guys really prey on older generations! HTH

This just happened to my parents last weekend! My dad said he clicked on a news article and got the same pop up and couldn't close out of anything. He fell for it and they took $600 from him. My mom was so angry he believed them. I had a long talk with them too.

Pinterest scam warning
It happened to my grandfather also a couple of months ago. It's terrible. They make it so you can't close out of anything on your screen.

If they haven't already, tell your parents to contact the credit card company they used. My grandfather's reimbursed the charge.

Omg! I have this now. I haven't had a chance to do anything about it yet. But I kept getting pop ups and then it's telling me not to shut down or reboot but to call Microsoft tech support bc my computer has been compromised and something about malware.
So what am I supposed to do to fix it if it's a scam?

Yes, they did, thanks. They cancelled the card and are disputing the charges. Hopefully they get their money back.

Call actual tech support, not the number they give
I think it's just a pop up ad you can close out of but I didn't actually see it so hard to say.
I told my mom she is only allowed to go to the Apple Store for help, no calling anyone else!
