sweet memories as a young child
If you think back to all the things you did as a child, can you think of a time or event that still puts a smile on your face when you think about it.
I'll start:
I don't know what made me think of this while I was driving today but I was thinking of fun times I had with my Dad.
my parents always loved to dance, they still do and would/will be the first ones on a dance floor at any party. When I was a child from time to time they would put a record (yes a record) or the radio on and we would all dance.
I remember as a very young girl dancing with my dad, but I was too young so I would place my feet on top of his and he moved me around the floor. I also remember him teaching me for the first time how to slow dance, we would practice over and over then we attended our first father daughter dance, it felt like such a special night out. To this day when we attend a Wedding or event that has dancing, my dad and I still dance one dance.

Re: sweet memories as a young child
that is so awesome.
my dad has always said that there's no point to dancing while everyone else is dancing. when you're the first one on the floor, everyone will watch how awesome you are on the dance floor.
my dad is a bit of a show off lol.
this weekend, i found myself looking through a LOT of very old pictures and they made me laugh, smile, and cry.
they reminded me of my uncle Albert, may he rest in peace. he was my favorite uncle and my godfather. his first career back when our family arrived to NYC, he was a hairdresser. he used to cut my hair even after he started a different career. i used to love how he would always be at our house on monday (his day off) and he'd goof off with me. and whenever he cut my hair, he'd call me the MGM lion because i have so much hair.
to this day, MGM movies bring a small smile to my face.
i miss him.

sweet memories as a young child
The ones that stick out to me are of my mother singing all.the.time. The house would always be filled with music. And what I love now is that I am the same way. Granted, my mother had a great voice and I don't - but I am always singing in the house. I hope I am creating sweet memories for my DD.

Re: sweet memories as a young child
My dad would always put on Billy Joel albums and we'd dance around the living room. I remember that my favorite, as a kid, was "Pressure"...........I'd go crazy!
I remember "camping out" in our backyard in a giant, old army tent that my dad had. I use to love summers as a kid, my mom would bring my sibs and I over to my Grandparents house almost every day and we'd play with our cousins, go swimming, have BBQ's, go to the park, etc. Some of my best memories were at my Grandma and Grandpa's house! Our family trips to Disney World are up their on my list!!............we had so much fun and made so many great memories!

Re: sweet memories as a young child
I love all of these
I have so many! It's very emotional for me lately to think back about my childhood since my mom is sick. My mom was a stay at home mom and gave motherhood everything she had. We had an amazing childhood. I remember building a tree fort with my mom and brother. I was in second grade. She took us to the paint store and let us pick out all kinds of wacky colors and we painted the tree house. We were covered with paint and it looked like a total wreck but she always just went with it.
My mom loves swimming I have so many found memories of swimming with her at my grandparents lake house, her teaching me to row and sail. Those memories instantly bring a smile to my face!

4 1/2 years old, on my Grandmother's farm in Germany. I run to the back of the garden, pick a berry, run back to Oma standing at the kitchen door so she can wash the berry. I eat it, then run to the back of the garden again, over and over. I remember her just laughing.

sweet memories as a young child
I would sleep over my grandmas house every Saturday night and we would go to the diner in the morning and have pancakes. Then we would go shopping.
I grew up in Queens and I would roam the neighborhood with my dog. Sampson was a German Shep. and he looked like Rin Tin Tin! Best dog ever! We would be out for hours! Walk all over College Point, Play in the dumps, go to the school yard, watch planes take off from Laguardia! It was awesome and he was my best friend!

i slept at my grandmother's on saturdays as well... the ritual was that we'd walk to the center of town to shop, we'd have lunch at Woolworths and then after dinner... we'd watch LOVE BOAT AND FANTASY ISLAND. that was living!!

Re: sweet memories as a young child
My cousins and I used to constantly make "magic potions" in the backyard with water, rocks, dirt, sticks, feathers, whatever we could find.
Also we had this rock garden and I remember smashing the rocks to try and find diamonds inside. My Dad caught me one day and was so mad that I could have gotten hurt from a rock shard in my eye. He put an end to that fast!
That is the first thing that came back to me, but a lot of my memories are of me being outside, playing outside, rain, sun, snow, and wind, I always wanted to be outside.

It was so different! My Gram lived in Whitestone in a high rise Condo right under the Throgs Neck Bridge. I loved it there. Her terrace was so high up!! I have sooo many memoried from my Grandmother. She is so special!

Re: sweet memories as a young child
I have wonderful memories of going on vacation with my grandparents to Wildwood Crest. My grandpa bought me a boogyboard and I loved being in the ocean. I also loved flying a kite but I'd always let it go out too far so my grandpa would have to sit there and reel it back in because I couldn't do it myself.
I also loved sleeping over their house and making pancakes with my grandma. I would find tchotchkes in their house and find wrapping paper and "gift" those tchotchkes to my parents when they would pick me up. I didn't understand that I was basically stealing from my grandparents so that I could bring home a gift to my parents .
My grandfather is gone since 2007 and my grandma is still alive but 92 and doesn't have much of her memory. It's really hard thinking about it sometimes but I am so thankful I have these wonderful memories with them. The son that I'm expecting in the next few weeks will be named after my grandpa so I've been thinking about him a lot these days.

Re: sweet memories as a young child
Vacations...and they were not fancy - we rented a large caravan in a coastal town and stayed there for 2 weeks and had SO much fun. Other than that our sunday drives always ended in a trip to the ice cream store and I remember them so well.
Apart from that I do remember summer being so long, being outside ALL day, riding my bike with my siblings to our local town outdoor pool which was freezing...and swimming there twice a day.
Simple, lovely memories.
I hope my kids feel the same about their childhood although its pretty different to mine.

Re: sweet memories as a young child
One of my grandmas lived in Brooklyn (God rest her soul). Every other Sunday my mom (God rest her soul) would bring my sister and I there to visit since she didnt drive. We would always be excited to go she used to buy us tons of teen magazines and make us the best lunches with delicious cold cuts, olives, marinated mushrooms, fresh bakery rolls and italian cookies. I still remember the smell of her apt.

Re: sweet memories as a young child
Hands down when my parents surprised me and my little sister with our first family dog, Muffin. I lived in a co-op in Queens until I was 10. We couldn't have a dog there. It was what I wanted more than anything. Every birthday wish was for a puppy.
So when they bought a house on Long Island, they went to North Shore Animal League while we were in school and got a Shepard mix puppy. Hid her in a big box and filmed her popping out and surprising me and my sister.
Whenever someone asks my favorite memory, that's the first of many that come to mind.
