best pharmacy

So I have always gone to CVS, but a friend recently said that Walmart is cheaper. Never even thought of looking into prices at different pharmacies.
Anyone notice a big price difference between Walmart, CVS, Target, etc?

Thanks!

For over the counter medicine and such? I find that CVS is VERY expensive. Target, BJ's, Walmart and Costco have much better prices. I even find better prices at Shop Rite than CVS most of the time.

For prescription stuff - prices tend to be the same but, we go with a local pharmacy since they have better customer service.

I have heard that CVS is bit more expensive for RX meds, but there isn't anything else convenient to where we live except for Food Town and Stop and Shop. If it's a few bucks, I won't go out of my way. Target, BJs/Costco and Walmart are much farther away.

Wouldn't your copay be the same no matter where you go for a prescription?

That's what I thought, but my friend said some of her prescription meds are cheaper at Walmart and all kids vitamins prescribed are free. Never knew this

I think it depends on your drug insurance plan.
I pay $5 for any prescription, any time, anywhere.

I can never figure this out. Definitely depends on plan.

My plan has a $100 deductible per person before we pay a copay for a med. My son never met the deductible, last week we had to get him Tamiflu, it was $160! But now that he met it, everything is based on a tier 1, 2 or 3 price. Generics we just pay the cheapest price. For OOP prices or name brands, some pharmacies differ by a few dollars.

It could have something to do with her prescription plan - they may have a deal with Walmart?

Yes Target I have found is a lot cheaper than CVS. We fill mostly at CVS because its right nearby but certain medications that my insurance won't cover, I will go to Target because they have low cost generics... so for example on BC which my insurance doesn't cover I am able to get a $9 generic at Target. CVS would charge 27 or something like that.

Re: best pharmacy

Some insurance companies contract with specific pharmacies. I know that CVS is not the "preferred" pharmacy for some plans. Also, Target had their $4 generics list -- so for the poster above, who said she pays $5 for any prescription anywhere...it would only be $4 at Target.
HOWEVER...CVS bought the pharmacies inside the Target stores. So, gone is the $4 list, gone is the preferred pharmacy for certain plans, and gone is the low-priced over-the-counter medications. In fact, one medication (generic Sudafed), increased in price from $3.19/box to $6.99 per box OVERNIGHT when CVS took over!!!
I have friends who work there, and it is horrible!! Customers are complaining/yelling at the staff, and they have nothing to do with it! One friend is a tech and used to take great pleasure in finding coupons for customers to use on the more expensive medications, and now CVS has told her she is no longer allowed to do it...people's copays have increased, and the customers don't know why...many have told her that they specifically came to Target because they hate CVS...I even have a few friends who left CVS to go work for Target, and now they're CVS employees again!!!

In my experience, Costco is the cheapest!

A copay would be the same no matter where you go because that is set by your insurance company, copays don't fluctuate. However, for someone like me with a high deductible plan and NO copays it pays for me to look around because each pharmacy has a different negotiated price with Cigna for Rx's so I can save money on my meds depending what pharmacy I get it from.

My preference is always an independent pharmacy but there doesn't seem to be many on LI.

My copay is my copay so I go to CVS because it's closest, but the pharmacists at this particular CVS are nitwits. Every time I fill a prescription I say I need to find a new pharmacy.

My old plan I was stuck going to CVS almost exclusively. Trust me when I say every CVS is nitwits. I must have tried 3 to 4 on LI and they were all horrible. I have no idea how or why, must be some type of systematic issue because I cant believe every pharmacy worker at all CVSes are that bad.

That is why I like to go to my local prescription center. I don't trust these big places like Walmart or CVS. I like when the pharmacist knows my name when I walk in the door.
