Trumps warns riots if there's a contested convention. https://www.yahoo.com/politics/trump-gop-convention-riots-173311030.html
He's just giving his supporters ideas now.
He doesn't have to give people ideas. If he doesn't secure the nomination and they randomly choose someone else people are going to be angry. If he has a majority of delegates even if it's not 1237, it should count for something. Instead it shows how political parties have too much control. We want you to vote but we didn't like your choice so we will decide for you. It makes the whole primary process a joke and waste of time.
EXACTLY!!!! They are all scared of him. he is going to blow their shit up, which in the end is going t hurt their pockets and uncover so much deceit.
People need to look at the big picture. He will surround himself with the best, and he has a better chance of getting this country back to where it needs to be than Hillary. Yes, he has a big mouth, but we need a big mouth to take down this corrupt government, to battle ILLEGAL immigration, to bring our military back, to stand up for our Vets, to bring jobs back to the USA, to take back control of our lives instead of the government controlling it all. This country is becoming a dictatorship, and if the GOP doesn't stand by the man with the most delegates at the end, it is proof of that. This goes for the democratic side too, they are just as or even more corrupt.

First, it's still not clear that he is going to get the majority of delegates. link 538
There is no need to say what he said.
Look at the bigger picture? Racism? Empty promises? Etc.
Surround himself with the best? He's just said he will be his own campaign's foreign policy adviser:
'I'm speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I've said a lot of things,'
That's a big pile of nope.
He has given no detailed plans.
This country is becoming a dictatorship??? Thanks for the Thursday laugh!! And with Trump it wouldn't?
I said if. I also didn't say I support Trump. I believe the majority's vote should mean something, democrat or republican.
No, I agree with you. I'd be pissed if the candidate I voted for didn't get it because the delegate / electoral process seems to be a bit complicated (a la 2000 election). I think after this it's going to be looked at closely. I'm just saying it's not the majority needed just yet.

Re: Supreme Court nominee announcement
I just get scared when a candidate doesn't recognize major names, show familiarity with grave situations, or knowledge of what their job and powers will and won't be with precision. Doubly scared if that person tries to bluster and cover it up. Triply scared if their supporters don't notice or are ok with that.
Any candidate.

There is already sketchy crap happening in the primary voting. A polling place in Florida was telling people who arrived to vote that it was a republican only polling place. When an older couple raised concerns and refused to be given that false answer, the staff "found" the box of democratic ballots in the bottom of a closet. Like, really? wtf?
And Trump lost 2 IL delegates because some of his supporters wouldn't vote on other parts of the ballot because the people running had "ethnic" names. I mean, come on!
I can not see any future where Trump wins the presidency anyway, so the GOP is shooting themselves in the foot right now if they don't go with Garland. When they lose control of the Senate because of their idiocy, you know Clinton isn't going to nominate a moderate.

Re: Supreme Court nominee announcement
If Trump gets close to 1237 and they decide to have a contested convention, its going to be a real problem. I don't think Trump is far off in saying there will be riots. It would basically be a big F you to registered republicans. I could see a revolt from the republican party if they did that. In order for the GOP to retain any credibility and support from its constituents, they would have to support Trump as the nominee.
If I was a registered democrat voting in a primary, I would be annoyed about this super delegate situation, especially if I was a Sanders supporter. It's so corrupt. HRC has been shmoozing super delegates for years. Sanders doesn't stand a chance. The super delegate system can override the popular vote and makes the voting system a joke.
This nominee for SCJ is a gift toss to the GOP. They are being way too cocky if they are assuming a Republican will be president. He's a moderate. There is no way a democrat will choose a moderate. The shenanigans need to stop at this point.

They keep bringing up "Let the People decide" who the next President, and therefore, the next Justice, will be....
Uh... 4 years ago, the People decided who their President would be, and during his 4 years as President, his job is to nominate Justices, and the People would like You to do Your job. We didn't elect a President for 3 years.
McConnell is a petulant evil turtle man who needs to do his job with the rest of the senate. This is ridiculous. They should be embarrassed.
Meanwhile, a republican congressman has introduced a bill to make magic recognized as a national pastime. Really? REALLY? I know this doesn't have to do with the SCOTUS nominee but more about how it's stupid things like this that are being pushed through but healthcare, veterans, and jobs are thrown by the wayside. Their priorities are a joke.
He is a petulant evil turtle, but the Republicans were the not the first group to start these nominee wars.
How quickly we forget.

Bork was a staunch conservative with both sexist and racist background. Nonetheless, the Senate held hearings, he was not confirmed and Reagan then went on to nominate Justice Kennedy (a moderate Republican) who was confirmed before Reagan left office. So, your point is????
ETA. While the Bork nominated process was deeply divided, Democrats blasted him for his positions that did not line up with theirs. So, let the Senate Judiciary Committee hold proceedings and blast Merrick Garland on his record or positions. However, by NOT EVEN HOLDING A HEARING, the Senate is playing fast and loose with the Constitution.
The problem here is the Supreme Court is a separate branch of the government and the appointment should not be held hostage to the Senate's continued antics. Scalia was a strict constructionalist and would be appalled by the GOP's politicizing of this appointment.
Between not holding confirmation hearings and threatening to hold 2nd ballot to make sure Trump isn't the candidate, the GOP is really out of control and I hope the American people are smart enough to vote however many of these yokels they can in November.

Yes, this is NOT the same thing as BLOCKING a nominee. They held hearings like they are supposed to.
These GOP turds won't even hold a damn hearing and it is insulting to every American, regardless of party affiliation. They babble on and on about the constitution being so important, but they have no respect for it when it doesn't serve them. Gross.
I'm also sick of seeing the video of Biden from 1992 talking about not nominating in an election year. There was NO vacancy at that time and he was talking hypothetically. It doesn't excuse or give any merit to what the Senate is doing now.

Exactly this. The shit they're pulling is as undemocratic as what happens in countries the U.S. thinks they're above. You can't uphold the constitution only when it suits your agenda. I'm not a Trump supporter, but what they're doing is unconstitutional. Trump supporters should be outraged that they're being told their vote doesn't count for shit. Dems def have their problems, but in recent years the GOP has devolved and become so unrelatable to the average American, so unrelatable to their own constituents and the average republican, that I only hope they will self destruct and I honestly hope this election is the final nail in their coffin.

It wouldn't be unconstitutional, per se, because political parties, and the electoral college are not part of the constitution. Nonetheless, there are political mechanisms that should be respected and followed uniformly, not selectively.

YES! I hate Trump with all of my being. The thought of him as our president is terrifying. That said, Republicans ignoring their constituents and picking someone else (Paul Ryan or whoever) through a brokered convention would be a mistake. I live in NC, and there would be riots. People would go crazy.
The two party system is clearly not working. Each party is so focused on besting the other party and making sure the other party doesn't "Win" that they don't care at all about the people who voted them in or about actually getting anything done. The fact that the Republicans said they wouldn't confirm the SCJ before someone was nominated is just sickening to me. Same old crap where nothing gets done.

I agree with you that they need to honor what the people want, even if it will result in a huge disaster. We'll get the president we deserve, even if he sends our kids off to war with Mexico and his tax plan will be a huuuuuuge disaster for the country. Article
As terrible as a president Trump is likely to be, if he is the nominee, he should be able to run. I don't know if you hear this, but a "senior GOP official" (whatever that means) is claiming that the party picks the nominee; the country just picks the president. http://www.cnbc.com/2016/03/16/we-choose-the-nominee-not-the-voters-senior-gop-official.html
Disgusting.
Obama should absolutely be able to choose the nominee, and that nominee should get a fair hearing, just like a Republican president should have that honor. McConnell's defense, by the way was "Democrats started it." http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/16/politics/merrick-garland-senate-republicans/ Never before so clear that many of our politicians are literally children.
I would never, ever vote for Donald Trump. A vote for him is to reward hatred and violence. But I understand, to a small extent the appeal he has, in that he is not (at least not obviously) part of the "party." We do need to move away from our current system, and maybe this is the first painful step. I am planning to vote for Sanders, who, too, is not part of the system (he is one of the few independents in Congress, even though he changed to Democrat for the presidency).
I agree with many of you that it is clearer than ever before that it is not "Republican" vs. "Democrat," but instead the ruling class versus the people. I doubt Obama will win the judge battle, but he is right to try.
