When $ is owed

How do you tactfully remind a friend that she owes you money? (Less than $100, so not a critical amount, but it would be nice to get it back). I keep hoping she'll remember, but I doubt at this point it will happen. I just don't want to make a huge deal about it and it makes me feel cheap to ask. At the same time, I'd like the money back.

You should always have a deadline as if you don't, you will never get the money back.

I know it's sounds silly but I would probably blame it on my DH and say something about him asking where the $ is. Kind of takes it off of you but the message is still the same.

You could say something like I was going thru my bank statements to do my taxes and came across the $100 withdrawal. I had almost forgotten about it. When you get the chance, can I get it back so my account is balanced? I guess just go about it casually, if possible.

Can you text her? I would say something like Hi xxx, I hate to nag, but I really need the $xx reimbursement by the end of next week. When can I stop by before then to pick it up? Maybe we could meet for a cup of coffee too.

no one should ever feel cheap for wanting money repaid. I like all the suggestion mentioned above.

Id ask for it. Id say something like. Do you think you will be able to pay me back soon? I need the extra money to put towards (fill in the Blank)

I'd be direct & just say you need it because your checking is running low & you have bills due next week, something like that. You shouldn't be the one to feel embarrassed!

You don't need to give a reason. Just simply send her a reminder. "Hey x, I know things get busy and you probably forgot but can I pick up the x amount you borrowed tomorrow? "

I always hate to ask too; but then I realize; what am I an idiot? They are the borrower!

A quick text "Hey, quick question.......can you by chance send me the money before Friday; it would be a huge help".

And if by end of next week comes and you don't get it; say "Oops, I think it was lost".

I've just asked in those situations.

I don't give some reason or whatever. I'm not big on pussyfooting around an issue.

Just me personally, and I'm not saying I'm right, but if - and thats a HUGE 'IF" I ever loan anyone money, I would lend it with the notion that I will never ever see that money again. That being said, unless it is someone I completely trust( like my parents), I would never lend out a huge amount of cash.

If I do, & I get it back - WONDERFUL. Integrity proven.

If not, I totally expected it, and the person I lent the money to better know to never ever ask me for a dime again.

Don't you hate that you even HAVE to remind someone? That always irks me, I can't understand how someone would "forget" they owed you money. If I ever borrowed money from someone you better believe it would always be on the forefront of my mind and I'd be sure to get that money repaid ASAP before it became awkward.

You're not cheap for wanting to be paid back, money is money and if someone owes you you're entitled to ask for that money to be repaid. Like everyone else said, just be direct about it.
