Would you travel now, to Mexico, with kids?
Please don't move as I'm not exactly looking for specific travel advice.
I'm just wondering what people's opinions are now regarding travel to main tourist areas in Mexico.
I've been to Cancun/Riviera Maya area several times and have always loved it, but last time was 10 years ago. I always wanted to take my kids there but since the travel warnings came out and crime increased, I ruled it out.
Am I being silly? I think it'd be a great family vacation place but I wonder if it's unsafe or maybe becoming a parent has made me paranoid.

We went 2 years ago to Playa del Carmen, when DS was 8, and last December to Cancún. We felt very safe. On the first trip, DH was hesitating, but we didn't have any problem.
I wanted to add that we explored around and it was perfectly fine. From Playa we went to Tulum. On the last trip from Cancun we went to Chichen Itza and stopped in Valladolid for lunch. In both places we went to town, to buy stuff and for dinner.

Depends where in Mexico. Dh travels to Mexico frequently for work and there are some areas I would not feel comfortable with my kids. Or even going myself.
Cabo - hell yeah
Riveria Maya - probably yes
Acapulco - hell no
Mexico City - eh

Dh and I went puerto Vallarta about 6 months ago. We stayed on the resort the whole week. I felt safe the whole time. We had a connecting flight in dallas, which I heard afterwards is safer then a connecting flight in Mexico city.

I was in Puerto Vallarta a few weeks ago. We felt very safe, we took the local buses, walked around all different areas. Never once felt uncomfortable or unsafe. The people there were so nice and helpful.

We were in Cozumel two weeks ago with my kids and I felt perfectly safe, but I guess that's a pretty touristy area.

I would feel comfortable, but my DH is still on edge. We used to go to Mexuco every year, but haven't been back since having kids.

I haven't been in 3 years but I would go in a heartbeat. If I hadn't already been to,Tulim I would go there no questions asked. It's still very tourist. I am planning a trip there next year. Go, enjoy!

Just came back on Sunday, just DH and I. It's safe and I never have qualms about visiting. Usually stay in the hotel zone but this time opted for Riveria Maya. The resort we stayed at is within a larger hotel and it's amazing for kids. We rented a car drove to PdC and Akumal. Never scared. My 4th time and would go back in a heartbeat. Waiting for my kids to get a little bigger and plan to take them with us next time.
