Irritating animal sounds late at night - what is
I'm at my wits end!! I feel like Elaine from Seinfeld when she was kept up all night due to a dog barking.
We typically hear what we suspect are raccoons fighting, but it happens every so often and it ends after a few minutes.
Lately we are hearing this whining, cooing shit and it lasts HOURS. I'm talking 1:30 am to 5 am. It sort of sounds like the tone that the raccoons use when fighting. I can't see where it's coming from - but I suspect it's this little woodsy bush area across the street.
It happened again last night. I can hear it with my windows closed and everything. What could this be??? Is this a mating thing? What can be done? Even when using a sound machine, you can still hear it.

You know, I don't think it's cats. Cats moan and howl .. This isn't like that. It's like whining coo-ing. It's piercing. Maybe a bird? It only happens at late night though and goes to early morning.

My friend had this outside her apartment window. Dh and I heard it a couple of weeks ago. I think it is raccoons mating, since that is what my friend saw. Dh thought it was a cat and raccoon fighting.

This happened to us the other night. My husband and I got up bc it kinda sounded like a baby cooing or whining. It ended up being 2 cats.

I would think raccoons.
Last year, I went to pick up my younger son at my friend's house and as I turned onto our street, my older son and I heard a horrible screaming noise (he commented first and he usually doesn't notice much). It was raccoons in the sewer outside of their house.
Since the weather has been nice - I've seen a few out and about in the evenings in my neighborhood (usually they hibernate).

We get really weird sounds that I assume are foxes. Have you tried googling raccoon and other animal mating sounds to see if that's it?

Racoons mating.
This happened to us last year. They were up in a tree outside the second bedroom. Never saw that tree shake as much as it did that night.
